Legend of the Bali Strait

A long time ago there lived a very rich family. The head of the family is Sidi
Mantra, a powerful Brahmin, he likes to help other people. Sidi Mantra has a child
named Manik Angkeran. Unfortunately, his only child is not like his father, he has a
bad habit, namely gambling. His enjoyment of gambling could not be stopped, so that
his family fell into poverty.

That night Sidi mantra meditated to ask for guidance. In his mind, Sidi Mantra was
like seeing the Basukih Dragon in the crater of Mount Agung, this dragon was covered
in gold on its body and it was said that this dragon did not mind if someone needed its
help. The next day Sidi Mantra came to Mount Agung. When he arrived there he rang
the bell and called out the Dragon's name. Not long after, the Dragon Basukih came.
Because the Dragon Basukih already knew about Sidi Mantra's problem, Naga
Basukih immediately gave some gold to Sidi Mantra. "You are a good man, please
accept my gift," said Naga Basukih. Sidi Mantra went home and gave the gold to
Manik Angkeran.

Manik Angkeran gambles again and is again in debt. Not giving up, Manik
Angkeran stole his father's bell and immediately went to Mount Agung. Upon arrival
at Mount Agung, Manik Angkeran rang his father's bell and called the dragon's name.
A few moments later, the dragon appeared. "O son of mantra, remembering your
father's services, I will help you this time, but promise me you won't gamble again,"
said Naga Basukih. "Okay, kind Dragon, I promise not to repeat my actions again,"
said Manik Angkeran. As before, Naga Basukih gave some jewelry.. When the
Basukih Dragon turned around, Manik Angkeran immediately jumped and cut off the
Basukih Dragon's tail. Naga Basukih was very angry, "The Mantra son’s,, how greedy
you are! I've given you treasures, but you don't have enough and want to cut off my
tail? Now accept the punishment!", Said the Dragon. Manik Angkeran was killed by
the Basukih Dragon.

The news of his son's death made Sidi Mantra sad. He begged Naga Basukih to
bring his son back to life. Out of compassion, Naga Basukih agreed to Sidi Mantra's
request with one condition, "I will grant your request, but you have to return my tail to
its original state," said Naga Basukih. Sidi Mantra agreed, he used his magic to restore
the dragon's tail.

Manik Angkeran managed to come back to life, Manik Angkeran then apologized
to Naga Basukih and his father. However, his father's magic had run out and his father
slowly disappeared. At the place where his father disappeared, a water source
appeared that grew bigger and bigger until it turned into a sea that separated the land
into Java and Bali. People then called the sea "Bali Strait" or “Selat Bali”
