I.
Good morning, class!
Good morning, Ma’am!
Okay, everyone please stand up for the opening prayer.
Kindly lead the prayer, Jaiho.
Classmates let us all stand for the prayer.
In the name...
Please arrange your chair properly and pick up the pieces of
dirt under your chair and on the floor. Yes, Ma’am!
Thank you, class.
Thank you, Ma’am.
You may all take your seats.
We are fine Ma'am
How are you today class?

Glad to know that.

I.ACTIVIY
Before we start the lesson, today we are going to have an
experiment, the title of our experiment is lemon fizz. Let us
observe first then you are going to tell us the results of the
experiment.
Yes Ma’am.
Are you ready class?

So, we are going to use these materials; we will be needing

dishwashing liquid, a small bottle, lemon, and baking soda.
Okay, let us pour half of the water into this small bottle and
put the dish washing liquid, a lemon juice and mix it, then
let’s see what will happen when we put the baking soda into
this bottle.

What happens when we put the dishwashing liquid, lemon

juice then the baking soda? I can see there are bubbles formed.

Is it amazing?
Amazing
Is it surprising?
Surprising.
Very good observation

II. Analysis
Alright. After we observed the experiment. What do you think
is the first procedure? The first procedure is to prepare the materials which are the
dish washing liquid, lemon and baking soda, and mixed
together.
What happen next or what is the results of our experiment?
There is a reaction when we mixed the lemon, baking soda and
dishwashing liquid as a result the bubbles are formed
What is the reason why the bubbles are formed?
I think it is because of baking soda.
Aside from the reasons and the results, what can we call these
two events?
I think we can call this cause and effect.
Let us try to compose a paragraph using cause and effect
pattern.
What is the title of our experiment?
The title of our experiment is lemon fizz.
What materials did we used?
We used small bottle, lemon juice, dishwashing liquid, and
baking soda.

What’s the next procedure and the result? When the baking soda is mixed with dishwashing liquid, and
lemon, bubbles are formed.
What do you think is the reason why the bubbles are formed? I think the reason why the bubbles are formed because of
carbon dioxide.
Very good. Now, let’s complete the paragraph.
The lemon fizz is a fun bubbly science experiment. In
experiments, we used small bottle, lemon juice, dishwashing
liquid, and baking soda. When the baking soda is mixed with
dishwashing liquid, and lemon, bubbles are formed because of
the evolution of carbon dioxide. This is chemical change
because in this reaction new substance are formed.
Excellent. We already have a paragraph.

How the ideas developed? The idea developed because first we identified the cause and
effect.

In composing paragraph, when a paragraph describes,

elaborate, explain, and support the topic. What can we call
this? We can call this idea development.

What is our lesson for today?

Our lesson for today is about idea development and cause and
effect.

Perfect you got it. This activity we have are connected with
our lesson one of this is cause and effect, it is about the idea
development pattern.
III. Abstraction
Before we proceed to our lesson, let me show you the things
we need to achieve at the end of the lesson. Kindly read.
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected:
1. identify the cause and effect;
2. distinguish the grammatical signals used in the
paragraph; and
3. compose a paragraph using grammatical signals
Okay class, so we have done our activity. But before we
proceed to the lesson. We have here a road sign.

Class. If the road has a road signals. In English grammar we

have grammatical signals

what do you think is the purpose of road signs?

The purpose of road signs is to regulate the flow of traffic,
keep drivers safe and warn drivers of potential hazards.
How about the purpose of grammatical signal?
The purpose of grammatical signals is to maintain the flow of
the ideas.
Very good. For today’s lesson, we will discuss the
grammatical signals or expressions use in idea development
pattern which is cause and effect but before that let us define
first the grammatical signals and idea development.

Now, let’s define grammatical signal. Kindly read. Grammatical signals are writing devices that serve to maintain
text coherence. They signal the relationship between new
sentences and one before it.
Grammatical signals are the words that give readers or the
listeners a signal of what will follow an idea.
Remember we already discuss the meaning of coherence
when we talked about cohesive device. The cohesive devices
and grammatical signals are the same, these are devices used
to maintain the coherence.

Now, let’s proceed to idea development, can you please read Idea development is the manner or pattern by which a writer or
the definition Jana? speaker explains his/ her main idea about a topic in a
paragraph/s. Patterns of organization show the relationships
between supporting details in paragraph, and essays.

Thank you. The organization of supporting details helps to

understand how an author thinks and helps you remember
what you read.

Okay let us go back to the activity we have.

Again, what is the first procedure of the experiment?

What is the result of the experiment? The first procedure we prepared the materials we used.

There is a reaction when we mixed the lemon, baking soda and

the evolution of carbon dioxide. This is chemical change
Very good. How about the effect? because in this reaction new substance are formed.

I think the cause is “evolution of carbon dioxide gas” and

“chemical change”.

In the example given, I think the effect When baking soda is

mixed with dishwashing liquid, and lemon, bubbles are

patterns of organization but let’s focus to cause and effect
relationship.
Kindly read the definition of cause and effect.
Cause and effect describe or discusses an event/ action that is
caused by another event/ action.

for expressing causes and for expressing effects. Kindly read.

causes and effects.

What is cause and effect?

IV. Application
Let’s have an activity. We already have 4 groups, each group
will write 3-5 sentences using idea development pattern
(cause and effect) with its appropriate grammatical signals
through differentiated instructions, then each group will have
a representative to present their output in the class.

Group 1- Describe the picture using cause and effect pattern

with its appropriate grammatical signals.

Group 2- Write a news report script/dialogue using idea

development pattern (cause and effect) with its appropriate
grammatical signals.

Group 3- ROLE PLAY ACTIVITY

In 2 minutes role play a scenario about the cause and effect of
illegal drugs.

Group 4- Create a comic strip with dialogue using a pattern

of idea development (cause and effect).

Here is the rubric. A rubric is provided as your guide. Kindly

read

None Ma’am.

I will give you 10 minutes to finish your activity and each

group will present their output at least 2-3 minutes.

Okay class, any questions regarding your task?

Time is up!

Job well-done class!

Signal words help us to give hints about what is about happen
in what we are reading. It links the sentences and paragraphs
V. Generalization together smoothly. They can be words or phrases that connect
ideas of sentences and paragraph for coherence.
Now, after learning about grammatical signals in idea
development cause and effect. How can grammatical signals
help us to understand how sentences work in paragraph?

Thank you so much, Steff. Grammatical signals help us to

understand the topic or ideas in a paragraph and essay.

Do you have any more questions?

If none, kindly get 1 whole sheet of paper.
