Features of 21st-Century Teaching and Learning

21st century has to evolve and adapt to the

changing needs of our new generation in the way
of teaching and learning.

21st-century teacher, you need to develop

essential knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values
Critical Attributes of the 21st Century Function

As a teacher when we are already in

the field we need to know and apply the
attributes or skills to be efficient and
effective educators.
Integrated and Interdisciplinary

A 21st-century educator should be an integrated teacher and should be

taught in an interdisciplinary approach.

A practical conceptualization of interdisciplinarity in the interests of

integration is needed to address the multiple perspectives, epistemologies,
and fragmentation inherent in these problems.
Technologies and Multi Media
Education in the 21st century is a full use of available
resources or information and communication
Technology or ICT as well as multimedia to improve
teaching and learning skills.

Technologies also allow students a strong degree of

choice as they pursue learning with multimedia texts.
2 Categories of Multimedia
LINEAR
Multimedia tools generally progress from one screen to the
next and are commonly used by instructors as supplementary
teaching aids.

NON-LINEAR
Tools (those that include hyperlinks) offer viewers interactivity,
control of progress, and choice in their construction of knowledge.
Global Classroom
Inside the classroom should be a
global classroom we need to study
also the situations and conditions of
what is happening inside and outside
of the country.
Learning can take place anywhere,
anytime regardless of one’s age
Student-Centered

The Students at the Center framework includes four well-

researched tenets, or principles, for deeper learning that disrupt
patterns of oppression to ensure that each student has
meaningful opportunities to acquire skills, knowledge, and
dispositions so that each student realizes their fullest potential.
FOUR TENETS OF
STUDENT CENTERED

1.Personalized Learning

Personalized learning recognizes that students

engage in learning in different ways and in different
places.

STUDENT CENTERED

2.Learning is Competency-Based

Each student is assured of the scaffolding and differentiated

support needed to keep progressing at a pace appropriate to
reaching college, career and civic outcomes, even when
unequal resources are required to achieve a more equitable
result

STUDENT CENTERED

3.Learning Happens Anytime, anywhere:

The school’s walls are permeable; learning is not restricted to

the classroom or the building. Time and place are used
flexibly, in ways that optimize and extend student learning and
that allow for educators to engage in reflection and planning.
FOUR TENETS OF
STUDENT CENTERED
4.Students Take Ownership Over Their Learning:

They gain a clear understanding of what they have mastered, set

goals for what they need to know and master long-range,
determine what they need to master short-term to reach their long-
term goals and receive frequent feedback on their progress.
21st century skills

Is a skillset of generally understood to encompass a range of

competencies, including critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity,
meta-cognition, communication, digital and technological literacy,
civic responsibility, and global awareness
Project-Based and Research-Driven:

Studies have proven that when implemented well, project-based learning (PBL) can
increase retention of content and improve students’ attitudes toward learning,
among other benefits.

Teachers serve as coaches and facilitators of inquiry and reflection, and students
(usually, but not always) working in pairs or groups.
Meaningful of day-by-day activities
of learners.
