FIRST VOYAGE AROUND THE WORLD BY ANTONIO PIGAFETTA

Background of the Author  Also known by the name of Antonio
Lombardo or Francisco Antonio Pigafetta
 Venetian scholar born around 1491 in
Vicenza, Republic of Venice (modern
Italy) and died in 1531 in the
aforementioned place.
 Belonged to a rich family in his city of
Vicenza in northeast Italy.
 Studied astronomy, geography and
cartography.
 Pigafetta was one of the 18 people in
Magellan’s original crew who completed
the world’s first circumnavigation and
returned to Spain.

knowledge regarding the beginnings of
Christianity in the Philippines.
