ABSTRACT

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a dangerous non-communicable disease if not treated,

DM is a disorder of insulin secretion which causes insulin action disorder which cannot be stable
and cause complications if not treated immediately. The elderly are often affected by DM
because the performance of the body's organs can no longer produce insulin in sufficient
quantities.

Objectives: the Nutritional Needs of the Elderly in Mr. M with Type II Diabetes Mellitus in the
Working Area of the Pal Lima Health Center, Pontianak

Research : The sampling in this KIAN is purposive sampling, namely the sample is selected
according to the criteria desired by the researcher, namely the elderly with type 2 diabetes
mellitus

Results: This KIAN shows that a structured supportive education program has proven to be
effective in increasing the nutritional needs of the elderly with diabetes mellitus.

Discussion/Discussion: This structured supportive education is very beneficial for the elderly,
because supportive education consists of teaching, mentoring and support. The combination of
these three items is an advantage compared to standard education. According to the researcher's
opinion, the better the patient's knowledge of treatment, as well as the guidance and motivation
provided then improving nutrition in the elderly becomes easier.

Conclusion: The implementation of structured supportive education can be proven to be

effective in increasing the nutritional needs of the elderly, namely by increasing body weight and
body mass index in the elderly with diabetes mellitus who experience nutritional deficits after 3
days of intervention
