5) 4m of cotton strapping.
Step 1 //
Place pockets right sides together & stitch around the outside. Do the same with the bow.
Leave a small gap big enough to pull them inside out once done.
Clip edges - partiulcarly around curves & the dip in the pocket middle.
Pull right sides out, and press with the iron. Top stitch around the outside of each piece.
Step 6 //
With wrong sides facing, fold the end of your lining down by 1cm & pin alongside the zipper edge.
Stitch in place. (this is rather tricky to explain with diagrams, check out the video for reference on my
YT channel https://www.youtube.com/@mykeepernz). Do this fot both sides. Then top stitch along
zip edge to give it a nice tidy finish.
Fold down
1cm & tuck
under so raw
edge is hidden.
Step 2 //
Tie a knot in each of the bows. Make sure the knot is centred.
Place the bow on top of the pocket pieces. Stitch in place with the odd stitch around bow edges.
Step 7 //
Create zip stoppers by folding in half right sides together and then stitching down the side.
Turn right side out & press.
Then attach these at either end of the zip.
Step 3 //
Place the pocket on top of the end of bag (make sure you have stay stitched interfacing to your bag
end if you are using it). Stitch around the edges of the pocket to secure, ensuring you leave the top
open to allow the pocket to function :D
Step 8 //
With right sides together, fit the circle and panel to the end of the bag. Make sure you line the zip up
with the knot on your pocket as a middle point. This can sometimes take a little bit of time, so be
patient. An easy way to do it is to make the 1/2 points & then the 1/4 points and pin them first and
then work in small sections to pin down. Stitch this in place.
Step 4 //
Place straps down based on marked areas on the pattern. Start with the small pieces and stitch Pin first >> << Pin first
down, working your way around the entire edge of the strap.
Use one long piece of strapping to create the main straps. Pin them in place using the pattern as a
guide & leave 30cm excess from the width straps to the top of the straps that will become your
handles. Where the two ends of the strapping meet, carefully tuck raw edges under. You will have to
be careful stitching over this part as it can be quite thick. ^ Pin first
Step 9 //
Cut excess fabric away close to the stitch line. Now place bias biding around the raw edge.
Here is a great tutorial which shows this in detail: shorturl.at/ADHX6
