THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Background of the Study

A lot of students face a lot of pressure and difficulties when it comes to planning or

choosing their career. Selecting a career track is very crucial and must be given a lot of

attention and thought because of it’s long-term impact on one’s future career. It would

also be their stepping stone towards their dream job. It becomes more difficult as they

may realize that the strands they chose may no longer fit the courses that they want in

college. It might be because of a change of mind or maybe because they found new

skills that suits them over a span of two years.

With the implementation of the K to 12 program in the Philippines, knowing the

factors that may influence students’ career track or strand choices can be helpful in the

development of strategies that may help them make intelligent decisions. Specifically

we have the General Academic Strand, this strand is known for learners who are still

undecided on which track to take. The General Academic Strand is one of the four

strands of the Academic track for the Senior High School.

Maybe there are also disadvantages of taking general academic strand but still it

is the most ideal strand to those who are undecided. Specifically, the General Academic

Strand offers subject that can also be taken in other track or strands. It is a general

studies of all track and students can choose what they like in college because it is a

general preparation of all kinds of courses.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the effects of Choosing General Academic

Strand on Senior High School Career Choice in Magsaysay National High School.

Specifically, it answered the following questions:

1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of

a. Age

b. Gender

c. Grade & Section

The above mentioned data may help the entire study to recognize the

individual identity and differences among the varied respondents. Below are the

possible given questions that should be answered by the desired respondents relating

and addressing the entire issue:

2. What are the effects of choosing general academic strand on students

career choice?

3. What are the relevance and advantages that general academic strand has

that could affect the career choice of the students.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The research will focus on the effects of choosing general academic strand

on Senior High School Career Choice in Magsaysay National High School. It aims to

identify the advantages of choosing general academic strand on students career choice.

It aims to identify the advantages and disadvantages of choosing general academic

strand on students future career choice. This study will be limited to the career choice of

the students and will not reach on any negative effects of other academic strands.

Significance of the Study

This study examined the effects of choosing general academic strand on Senior

High School Career Choice in Magsaysay National High School. It ensures that there

are beneficiaries at the end of this study by obtaining data and information towards

respondents with the aid of the researchers. This study may help other individuals to be

aware about the effects of choosing general academic strand on students career

choice. The results of the study will be a great benefit to the following:

Students. This study will provide information about the benefits that the general

academic strand has, to help students on choosing their career.

Parents. The result of the study will give primary information to the parents about the

possible effects of choosing general academic strand to the future career of their

children or the students. This can be of help for them to be aware of the possible

situation that their children may undergo or encounter when they choose a strand or

when they choose the general academic strand.

Future Researchers. This study will encourage future researchers to research more or

to have a further study about the effects of choosing general academic strand on

students career choice, also it will serve as a guide for the future use of the studies and

the future improvement.

Conceptual Framework

Figure 2 shows the Conceptual Model of the study. The focused on the Effects

of Choosing General Academic Strand on Senior High School Career Choice in

Magsaysay National High School. The researchers opted to use an Input, Process and

Output (IPO) model. The input of the research paper statement of the problem that is

aligned with the title of the study.

The process that the researchers will use is a survey questionnaire to be given

to the respondents to have an honest answer regarding the research. The output of the

research is looking forward to the result in knowing the effects of choosing general

academic strand to students’ career choice.
