Shazli Islamic Centre, like the previous year, is busy with giving out Ramzan food boxes and
food is being distributed amongst those in need. In this endeavour, we need your contributions
also. I will talk about this in detail with you so you can also become a part of this effort that Allah
SWT accepts insha Allah.

Zakat for amaal:

Buzurgan e Deen have calculated a particular number to give zakat for every amal. That zakat
that you make cleanses your batin, your qalb and your spirituality. This can be understood with
the concept of zakat that we give on our possessions which cleanses the ownership of what we
have materially. Similarly, when we give zakat of an Amal, it purifies our inner self; The bowl
(qalb) has to be cleaned before anything is put in it. A specific number is read over a certain
number of days for each Amal.

How is the number in the zakat decided?

This is not a simple concept but for now one can understand that there are different adad in a
surah and associated with these are different moaqillan, jinnat and awan. Sometimes, zakat e
sighir is given and a smaller number is calculated. At times the jinnat and awan numbers are
also added to this and we calculate bigger sum totals which are zakat e kabir and zakat e
Akbar. There are other protocols that you may have to follow: the foods you may have to
abstain from, the timings of readings, the number of days the Amal is done. When the rules are
followed properly, do they bear the fruits or desired results.

Note: The wazaif we do are not part of the zakat for an amal.

I have seen a lot of people do multiple wazaif for rizq. The minute their problem is solved, they
then completely leave that wazeefa. Remember that you can not do something and then leave it
completely; even our Prophet Muhammad SAW discouraged that. If you take up something,
then you continue reading it, even if it is as little as once or thrice.

3
What to do if you have stopped an Amal?

If you were doing a number of wazaif and have now abandoned them, you can do the following.
Take something sweet with the niyat that you are returning the Amal and recite Fateha over it
and then offer two rakats namaz nafl. Present it in the bargah of Prophet Muhammad SAW,
Auliya especially Hazrat Abdul Qadir Jilani.

Oftentimes people think that there are effects of magic on them whereas it is not magic but the
'rujjat' due to the fact that they abandoned their wazaif.

I am very pleased to have Mufti Sahab onboard because not only is Mufti Sahab from a sadaat
family but also has dedicated his life to the well being of humanity. In our Shazli Islamic Centre,
we are very pleased to have the participation of Mufti Sahab as he will shed light on the
technical aspects of Shariah. On our channel Shazli Jawahir, you will see Syed Mufti Babar
Shah Gilani Sahab detailing issues and topics related to the Shariah.

Mufi Syed Babar Shah Gilani: We know that there are five pillars of Islam.

🟢 Profession of Faith (shahada). The belief that "There is no god but Allah , and Muhammad

🟢
SAW is the Messenger of Allah.

🟢 Prayer (salat)

🟢 Alms (zakat)

🟢Fasting (sawm)
Pilgrimage (hajj)

We should be conscious that like namaz is a 'badani' bodily worship, zakat is a 'maali' (material)
worship. Hajj is both 'badani' and 'maali' ibadat- it involves body and spending.

Sadqa is of two types: one, Sadqa e nafila: it is that Sadqa which is not obligatory but if we give
it, it would be beneficial for us. Second, is Sadqa e Wajiba. This is obligatory which you have to
give and if you do not, you get gunah.

Zakat is of two types also: Maal( this is the obligatory zakat we give on our monetary
possessions. This can not be given to Hashimi. Every Syyed is Hashimi but not every Hashimi is
Syyed.) Second, Ifraad (for instance, Sadqa e Fitr). The person who gives zakat and Fitra has to
be sahibe estidaad (materially capable of giving). Zakat is given yearly whereas Fitra is given
between the time when the moon of Eid is seen and the prayers for Eid namaz but it is
obligatory for only the person who can afford to give it. What is the amount for Fitra? An amount
which can buy 2.15 to 2.50kg of wheat (this is the minimum).

4
Fidia: is given when a person can not fast for genuine reasons. For instance someone is very
unwell and even after Ramzan they can not fast and it has been sanctioned by a tabeeb e hazib
(someone who is well versed in the Quran and Sunnah). The amount to be given out for Fidia is
the same as Fitrana.

Note: Zakat can not be given to your parents, grandparents or the lineage above or below you.
So you can not give zakat to your children or grandchildren and so on. You must however first
look at people who are in your family (siblings, uncles and relatives) who are deserving before
you give it out to other institutions.

If your near ones are suffering, then it places your zakat a little away from taqwa. You have to
first help those around you; you make niyat it zakat but to save them from embarrassment you
can call it a gift also. Zakat has to be given to someone who is not sahib e istidaad ( Muslim who
does not own an equivalent of 7.5 tola gold), orphans and masakeen (a person who does not
even afford one meal a day). Zakat is not given on halat e asliya (basic necessities), for instance
the car you use. It could be worth a lot but it is used on a daily basis so it is put within your halat
e asliya. A mosque or madrasa can not be built by asking for zakat, a heela may be used.

Live Calls:

Question: Why has Allah always mentioned namaz and zakat together in so many places?
Answer: The point to note is that both namaz and zakat are linked to purifying the individual.
Your tongue is cleansed, wudu cleanses the body, and namaz cleanses the Rooh. Then why
should the believer not further purify his/her wealth? In Surah Tobah verse 103: Allah has asked
the Prophet Muhammad SAW to make dua e Khair for the believers.

Question: Can zakat be given to the transgenders we see begging on the roadside?
Answer: Yes if the taker is a Muslim and falls under the categories we have discussed above
then they can. However, it should not be given to those who are professional beggars. There is
nothing in the Shariat that says that zakat should not be given to Khwajasera. If they are Muslim
and needy, then sure we can.

Question: There are a lot of issues in getting a good proposal, please recommend something.
Answer: Recite Ya Azizo Ya Latifo 500 times daily for 40 days. Insha Allah this should help.

Question: My husband gets angry very quickly and starts insulting everyone.

5
Answer: He should do wudu when he feels angry and if you can also recite darood e Ibrahimi
70 times and make him drink that water. It's very unfortunate that we lose control and
misbehave with family.
