Project Proposal: One-Day Consultation Workshop for ANMs

and Nurses on Mental Health in Perinatal Phase

Introduction

The perinatal phase is a time of significant physical and emotional changes, making women
more susceptible to mental health issues. Nurses are at the forefront of perinatal care, and
their understanding of mental health challenges is crucial for providing comprehensive
support. This workshop aims to bridge the gap in knowledge and skills among nurses to
ensure holistic care for pregnant women and new mothers.

It is a comprehensive one-day consultation workshop aimed at enhancing the knowledge and


skills of Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and nurses within your esteemed department. In
collaboration and support with Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare,
Government of Telangana and Amita Care, NGO have initiated the One-Day consultation
workshop for ANMs and Nurses on Mental Health in Perinatal Phase.

Aim

To promote awareness on wellbeing and encourage breastfeeding of mothers in perinatal


phase among ANMs and nurses in healthcare system.

Objectives

 To increase awareness among ANMs and nurses about mental health challenges in the
perinatal phase.
 To enhance the skills of nurses in identifying and addressing mental health concerns
in pregnant women and new mothers.
 To promote the benefits of breastfeeding and educate healthcare professionals on best
practices for supporting breastfeeding mothers.
 To educate and empower pregnant individuals on the importance of self-care and
wellbeing practices throughout the pregnancy journey.
 To foster a positive and nurturing environment by promoting healthy relationships and
communication with partners, family members, and healthcare providers.

Target Audience

ANMs, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, and other healthcare professionals involved
in perinatal care.

Workshop Components
I. Mental Health Awareness:
 Introduction to mental health concepts and common disorders.
 Strategies for recognizing signs of mental health issues.
 Effective communication and empathy in dealing with individuals facing mental
health challenges.
