Alarming Rise in global temperatures Climate change or shifts in temperatures and weather patterns
are natural, but since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change,
primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels (like coal, oil, and gas), which produces heat-trapping
gases.
The following activities have been planned as your holiday homework; students are requested to
attempt ANY ONE of the given activities (Among Activity 1 and 2) that will help you express in the
best way.
Activity 1
Unleash your creativity Create an e-magazine of 4-5 pages (using Canva app or any other digital app)
sensitizing people about the impact of global warming on any region of the Arctic Circle. Submit your
E-magazine on the Google Classroom on or before January 8, 2024.
Activity 2
Spread awareness with creativity Create a unique and creative poster with a distinctive slogan on A4
size sheet. Your poster should depict the contrasting picture of the world before it was affected by
global warming and the current situation of the world. This needs to be submitted as a poster on
8th January, 2024.

Activity 3
4. What are some daily common uses of the following chemicals: (Internet)
5. What purpose does a catalyst serve? What’s a common catalyst in your body? How fast do
these common catalysts’ allow the reaction to occur(in seconds)? (Internet)

Activity 4
Inquiry/Investigation
1.Vinegar (you can find it in your home. If not, they are readily available in departmental stores)
2. Sodium Bicarbonate (Nothing to be scared about the big name, it is just Baking soda which
most kitchens have. If not again, it is readily available in stores).
3. Dry Yeast (available in stores)
4. Glucose Solution
5. Thermometer
6. Styrofoam cup
Step 2: Once the temperatures are recorded, gradually add baking soda to vinegar keeping
the thermometer inside cup. Note the temperature changes. Record it on a table.
Step 3: Add dry yeast gradually to Glucose solution. Note the temperature changes. Record
it on a table. Note: Dissolve the dry yeast in water and then gradually add to the glucose
solution. You may use 2 teaspoons of yeast.
Step 4: Compare the temperature differences between both the reactions and state which
reaction is exothermic and which is endothermic.
Take pictures while you are performing the investigation. Include it in your report,
tabulate the results and write a conclusion about the reactions. You may refer to the
following videos for your investigation.
