Light Energy

Light is a form of energy and it is the only form of energy that we

can see with our own eyes. Without light energy, we would live in a
world of darkness. Most of our light energy comes from the sun.
This powerful source of energy means that living things can
survive on the Earth.

Light travels in a ray and a ray moves in one direction.

People cannot see completely around objects because light
moves in rays. Light bounces off objects and the light flows
into human eyes.
Light rays travel very quickly and this speed is called ‘the speed of
light. Light travels at 186,282 miles per second. This is so fast
that if you could travel at this speed, you could go around the
Earth seven times in one second! This is why you always see
lightning before hearing thunder during a thunder storm.

Although the sun is the main source of light energy on Earth, there
are many other sources. Some sources are natural and some are
artificial. Natural sources are created by nature, whereas
artificial sources are created by humans.
With the person sitting next to you, write a list of some natural
and some artificial sources of light.
