La Reserva Biopark

This park rescue animals from illegal traffic and the visitors can learn about
conservation and sustainability at this family-friendly animal sanctuary.

I choose one of the most beautiful species of butterflies, the Blue Morpho. It’s
wings are bright blue, edged with black. Their vivid, iridescent blue coloring is a
result of the microscopic scales on the backs of their wings, which reflect light. Blue
morphos live in the tropical forests of Latin America from Mexico to Colombia. The
blue morpho’s entire lifespan lasts only 115 days, which means most of their time is
spent eating and reproducing.

Blue morphos are severely threatened by deforestation of tropical forests. Humans

provide a direct threat to this spectacular creature because their beauty attracts
artists and collectors from all over the globe who wish to capture and display them.

BOGOTÁ BOTANICAL GARDEN

José Celestino Mutis botanical garden is Colombia's biggest botanical garden. It

serves both as a recreation and research center with an emphasis on Andean and
Páramo ecosystems. The garden is located in Bogotá and features plants from
every Colombian altitude, climate and region. It was founded in 1955, in honor of
botanist and astronomer José Celestino Mutis.

I choose the Iris, a perennial plant, growing from rhizomes. have long, erect
flowering stem that can be simple or branched. usually have 3–10 sword-shaped
leaves.

Iris is extensively grown as ornamental plant in home and botanical gardens, and
it’s flowers colors are often blue, purple, white, or yellow. The name iris means
“rainbow” in Greek. It is the name of the goddess in Greek mythology who sends
messages between gods and mortals on earth. According to a legend, Iris, the
goddess, traveled to earth through a rainbow, and beautiful flowers appeared
wherever she set foot on the ground. These flowers were then called iris, like her
name.
