“Bayanihan Para sa matatag na Paaralan”

Brigada Eskwela, a remarkable annual endeavor of the Department of Education, brings

together a collective effort fueled by the spirit of Bayanihan, a fundamental aspect of Filipino
culture, aimed at preparing schools for the brand-new Academic Year 2023-2024. This narrative
report captures the profound impact and incredible achievements of Brigada Eskwela 2023
specifically to Looc Norte National High School, highlighting the theme "Bayanihan Para sa
Matatag na Paaralan." The vibrant opening program, the transformative school ground cleaning,
compost pit renovation, classroom clearing operations, generous donations received, and the
restructuring of classrooms and offices all played integral roles in creating an environment
conducive to learning and growth. As we delve into the details of this narrative report, let us be
amazed with the power of unity and collaboration, encapsulating the essence of Brigada Eskwela
2023 in Looc Norte National High School.

Day 1
Monday, August 14, 2023

The Brigada Eskwela 2023 with the theme "Bayanihan Para sa Matatag na Paaralan"
commenced with an energetic opening program held at the Looc Norte National High School
upper ground stage at exactly 8:00 in the morning. The event was graced by the school principal
of Looc Norte NHS, Mrs. Cecilia R. Espina together with her equally devoted teachers, parents,
and volunteers from the community who gathered to support the preparation of the school for the
upcoming academic year. The program started with a lively and energetic beat of a zumba
performance headed by one of the MAPEH teachers, Mrs. Kimberly A. Abay, and company,
followed by an inspiring message from the school principal itself highlighting the importance of
unity and collaboration in creating a conducive learning environment. One of the significant
moments in the program is the turnover of donation. Looc Norte NHS is indeed very thankful to
receive donations like reference books, two road signages, a printer with a set of inks, a Smart
TV, and a set of garbage bins all coming from private organizations and individuals. Before the
program ended, a pledge and signing of commitment from the faculty, volunteers and other
stakeholders happened which showed how committed everyone was in helping together to ensure
the schools’ readiness for the opening of classes.

After the uplifting opening program, everyone enthusiastically began the first task of
Brigada Eskwela 2023 which was to clean the school grounds. The volunteers formed teams and
were assigned specific areas to clean. They picked up, segregated, and threw trash away, swept
areas that needs sweeping, and weeded the grounds, plant boxes as well as the Sugbusog garden.
It was heartening to see the participants working hand in hand, showing their dedication in
ensuring a clean and safe environment for the students. The day turned out to be a productive one
and that was because of the help of the 428 volunteers.

Day 2
Tuesday, August 15, 2023

With the same spirit of camaraderie and determination, the volunteers for the 2 nd day of
the Brigada Eskwela continued the school ground cleaning. They focused on areas that required
more attention, such as the ground in front of SMAW Shop, the Sugbusog garden, the area near
the lower gate, and other common areas inside the school campus. The volunteers spent hours
working diligently, pruning trees, weeding the grounds, and mending broken fences. The hard
work and collective effort of the 187 volunteers for that day transformed the school grounds into
an inviting and vibrant space.

Day 3
Wednesday, August 16, 2023

On the third day of the Brigada Eskwela, the goal is to clear and renovate the compost pit
and the MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) area. The operation was headed by Mrs. Evelyn
Salbador, Miss Christine Estrella together with other colleagues with the support of course of the
unwearied volunteers. Armed with sacks, shovels, garden rakes and wheelbarrows, volunteers
started clearing the area by segregating the waste. Sacks of plastic trash have been removed.
Twigs, branches, and dried leaves have been segregated and were properly disposed. Since the
area is big and it was full of unsegregated trash, the activity consumed most of the volunteers’
time for the whole day. Volunteers really exerted so much effort in cleaning the areas, that before
the day commenced, tiredness was really evident on everyone’s faces. Nevertheless, the
satisfaction they felt right after seeing the result of their collaborative effort is indeed very
fulfilling. For that day, the Brigada Committee recorded a total of 180 active volunteers.

Day 4
Thursday, August 17, 2023

Since yesterdays’ activity was only spent cleaning and segregating trash from the
compost pit, to keep the momentum going, the volunteers for the fourth day dedicated another
day to further enhance the compost pit area. They then fixed, repaired, and reinforced the
structure to ensure proper decomposition of organic waste. The compost pit renovation aimed not
only to reduce waste but also to educate the students about the importance of recycling and
environmental conservation. The continual efforts of the volunteers ensured the success of this
important eco-friendly initiative.
After the completion of the compost pit activities, the focus shifted towards the classroom
clearing operation. Each classroom was thoroughly cleaned and organized in preparation for the
new school year. Furniture was rearranged, unnecessary clutter inside the classroom was
removed, floors were swept and mopped, and windows were dusted. The volunteers displayed
immense dedication, ensuring that each corner of the classrooms was polished, making it
learners ready.

Aside from those physical works done, the school received another generous donation
worth of Php1000 from a private individual. The donation was intended to purchase much-
needed sanitation essentials like alcohol and hand soaps, as well as other classroom consumables
like floor wax. The product purchased from this donation will then be shared by the entire school
community. Aside from the donation received, a generous number of volunteers also donated
their time to the school. It was reported that there was a total of 315 volunteers for that day alone
which made the school very grateful and thankful.

Day 5
Friday, August 18, 2023

Following the success of the classroom clearing operation, the volunteers for the fifth day
extended their efforts to include the clearing and restructuring of some offices. Administrative
offices, multimedia center and the school clinic received a deep clean and reorganization from
their respective occupants with the help of the volunteers. Desks and cabinets were rearranged
making the area spacious enough for new occupants. Books and modules were sorted, counted,
and transferred to new areas with the proper labels for easy identification. Storage areas were
also checked, cleaned, rearranged, and were designated for efficient use. Floors were also swept,
scrubbed, and mopped. The school clinic even received a special favor, for it was painted with a
new color giving it a relaxing vibe even from the outside.

It was also noted that on that day another donation comprising of 4 boxes of floor wax
and 2 bar soaps, was handed over by a private individual to our School Property Custodian, Mrs.
Alma D. Tapere. The 180 volunteers demonstrated their commitment to creating an organized
and functional work environment for the school faculty and staff to deliver good service to the
Nortenian community.

Day 6
Saturday, August 19, 2023

As the week of Brigada Eskwela 2023 drew to a close, all the implemented activities
were carefully reviewed and finalized by the school Brigada Eskwela Coordinator itself, Mrs.
Caressa M. Batuigas, and was also graced by the presence of our supportive school principal,
Mrs. Cecilia R. Espina. Any remaining tasks were completed, and final touches were given to the
various activities undertaken.
To celebrate the successful Brigada Eskwela 2023 of Looc Norte NHS, a culmination
program at exactly 1:00 in the afternoon was held at the upper ground stage on the school
premises. Teachers, and some volunteers from parents, and community members gathered to
witness the results of their collaborative efforts. Reports and updates were delivered showcasing
the achievements of the volunteers, highlighting the remarkable changes accomplished through
their participation.

All in all, the whole Brigada Eskwela 2023 experience indeed serves as a reminder not
just for the school, but to the whole community that through collaboration and unwavering
dedication of every individual involved, we can altogether shape a future for our learners where
education knows no bounds.

And lastly, the tireless dedication and collective effort shown by the teachers, students,
and volunteers brought about a significant transformation in the school environment also making
the Looc Norte National High School a living witness that Bayanihan in the Philippines still
exists.
