“GIVING BACK, BUILD UP: JOIN THE BRIGADA

ADVOCATES”
Last July 3, 2023, our professor asked to chose three leaders for our CSR as our
Good Governance and Social Responsibility subject requirement. The chosen leaders
give them a privilege to picked their preferred members. After choosing, we had a
brainstorming about our plan for the project we are going to execute. Then, we come up
with the idea to do a brigada eskwela and we decided to use “GIVING BACK, BUILD
UP: JOIN THE BRIGADA ADVOCATES” as our campaign slogan. Afterwards, we all
agreed to one of our member’s suggestions which is to do a brigada eskwela at Twin
Stars Academy in Palo Alto, Calamba City, Laguna.
A week later, we asked the permission of Mrs. Bhena Gomez, a school principal
of Twin Stars Academy about our plan to administer the brigada eskwela on their
school. Then, she accepted our proposal and told us to do it by 21ST of July.
As we all know, Brigada Eskwela is an annual event in the Philippines where
volunteers come together to clean and repair schools before the start of the school year.
It aims to promote community involvement and ensure that schools are safe and
conducive for learning.
This year, we had the opportunity to participate in Brigada Eskwela in our local
elementary and high school. As a volunteers, we were excited to contribute our time and
effort to improve the school's facilities and create a better learning environment for our
fellow students.
Last July 21,2023, we gathered early in the morning at the school grounds. The
atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and a sense of camaraderie as volunteers from
different walks of life came together for a common cause. Teachers and students were
present, all ready to lend a helping hand.
We were divided into different groups, each assigned to a specific classroom. We
were tasked with cleaning the classrooms. It was amazing to see how everyone worked
together, sharing their skills and knowledge to accomplish the tasks at hand.
As the groups assigned to clean the classrooms, we were struck by the amount
of dirt and dust that had accumulated over the summer break. We started by sweeping
the floors and wiping the dusty windows. We then proceeded to clean the blackboards
and arrange the desks and chairs in an orderly manner. It was a tedious task, but the
smiles on our faces and the laughter we shared made the work more enjoyable.
Throughout the week, we continued our efforts to improve the school. We
repaired broken windows, fixed leaking roofs, and painted the walls with vibrant colors.
The school grounds were transformed into a lively and inviting space.
One of the highlights of Brigada Eskwela was the sense of unity and community
spirit that permeated the entire event. It was heartwarming to see ourselves working
side by side, sharing stories and laughter as we worked towards a common goal. We
actively participated, helping in any way we could, whether it was carrying heavy things
and cleaning the school grounds.
As the day came to an end, we gathered once again to celebrate the successful
completion of Brigada Eskwela. The school principal expressed her gratitude to all the
volunteers for their hard work and dedication. She emphasized the importance of
community involvement in ensuring the success of the school and the education of the
students.
Brigada Eskwela was not just about cleaning and repairing the school; it was
about building relationships and fostering a sense of ownership and pride in our
community. It was a reminder that education is a collective responsibility, and that by
working together, we can create a better future for the next generation.
In conclusion, our experience with Brigada Eskwela was truly rewarding. It was a
humbling experience to witness the power of unity and community involvement in
transforming a school. We were grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of this
meaningful event and look forward to participating again in the future.
Brigada Eskwela Advocates taught us the value of collaboration, teamwork, and
the satisfaction of giving back to our community. We were able to enhance the learning
environment and give students more control by collaborating and working together,
significantly affecting their educational experiences. It is a potent reminder that even a
tiny gift can have a significant impact on securing a better future for our children and
society at large.
