FINDINGS AND CONCLUSIONS

Included in this chapter is the account of findings and conclusions that the
proponents have come up with during the whole research process. This will help
on answering the questions that were important to support the need for the
proposed Iluluan Retreat and Tourism Complex; the following findings and
conclusion have been determined.

9.1 FINDINGS
The thorough investigation conducted for the proposed Iluluan Retreat and
Tourism Complex led the proponents to compose the following findings:

1. The town of Camalig, being considered as the home of heritage

houses in Albay, has been gaining attention from foreign and local
tourists. The persistent efforts of the local government through
extensive research and documentations of the cultural heritage of the
town have boosted its tourism in the preceding years and preserved
most of its significant tangible immovable heritage. Due to the growing
number of tourists, the town seeks for an accommodation that would
cater its visitors and would also foster the town’s rich culture and local
cuisine.
2. Since the proposed study would be a cultural heritage and tourism
complex, it will provide an accommodation for the tourists that would
introduce them to Filipino-Spanish Architecture. It will also provide a
retreat center and spa for relaxation and meditation. The
Administration Building would serve as the administrative core of the
whole establishment. This will include some of the amenities like
restaurant, museum and souvenir shop; the different types of
Accommodation Unit/s that would cater various quantities of tourists;
the Spa Building that will offer meditation and relaxation services; the
Viewing Towers that would let the tourists to experience the
panoramic view of Mayon Volcano and the rolling hills of Camalig; the
Amphitheater and Function Hall that will accommodate activities,
events or seminars; the picnic, worship hall, the maintenance/utility
building, public toilets and guard posts would serve as the supporting
facilities and amenities of the proposed project.

3. To achieve an efficient plan for the proposed Iluluan Retreat and
Tourism Complex, the regulating design standards and laws namely,
The National Building Code of the Philippines, Fire Code of the
Philippines, Plumbing Code of the Philippines, Structural Code of the
Philippines and Accessibility Law would be used as a reference and
basis for the design considerations.
4. Camalig is known as the heritage town of Albay and the proponents
took this opportunity to apply Post Colonial and Pre Colonial Spanish
era on its design concept that would harmonize with the town’s
ambiance and preserve its cultural identity. It would also incorporate a
retreat center for relaxation and meditation by introducing nature and
history.

9.2 CONCLUSIONS

The following conclusions are derived from the findings composed in the
proposed study:

1. The growing number of the tourists in the town of Camalig should have
an accommodation that would be a center of relaxation, fun and
connection with nature and Filipino-Spanish architecture. The design
should resemble post-colonial and pre-colonial Spanish era from its
buildings, to its surroundings.
2. The specific facilities and amenities of the proposed study would offer
different services for its future users. It would also serve as another
landmark and would benefit the town in terms of opportunities and
tourism.
3. The design standards, laws and guidelines would be the proponents’
guide for the planning and designing stage of the Iluluan Retreat and
Tourism Complex.
4. The proponents’ goal was to portray history, culture and introduce
tourists to nature. Therefore, Filipino-Spanish Architecture would be
the center of the proposed study and would employ “bahay na bato”
and “bahay kubo” as the basis for planning and designing its facilities.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Based from the mentioned conclusions, the following recommendations

are made to further improve the research. These presented ideas will widen the
spectrum of the proposed Iluluan Retreat and Tourism Complex.

1. To further enhance the aesthetic quality and feels of Spanish Colonial era
ambiance, the proponents recommend the introduction of the use of
“kalesa” as an additional attraction for the tourist.
2. The proposed project would cater both accommodation and meditation
services by providing world-class amenities. In order to gain more tourists,
future researchers should conform to new innovative ways to achieve
finest relaxation experience.
3. The study focuses on sustainability and promoting the cultural heritage of
the town of Camalig. Therefore, the scope of design standards, laws and
guidelines has a wide range to abide with. These laws will be revised in
the preceding years; ergo the proposed establishment should follow with
whatever the changes are.
4. As per provision to the Fire Code of the Philippines, the proponents
recommend a pendent-type sprinkler system as another type of fire-
fighting tool to be used in buildings having exposed truss members.
5. The proponents recommend future researchers to conduct a thorough
interview with a professional historian having a deeper knowledge about
Philippine history to further understand the complexities of living during the
times of Spanish and American colonization. This will be the edge among
other retreat and tourism complex.
6. The proponents recommend the proposed project to be constructed. This
will serve as another landmark that compliments the essence of the town
itself and will help cater the growing number of tourists in Camalig, Albay.
