1. Purpose
Process Industry Practice PIP STF05521, January 2017 issue is adopted as a SABIC Engineering
Standard (SES) with the following addendum.

2. Addenda
The following section and paragraph numbers refer to PIP STF05521, January 2017.

Sub-section 1.2: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


This standard provides fabrication and installation details for standard angle railing for walking
and working surfaces.
Any conflicts or inconsistencies between this standard and the other standards, engineering
drawings shall be resolved at the discretion of SABIC.

Section 2: Add the following paragraph:


Reference is made in this standard to the following documents. The latest issues,
amendments and supplements of these documents shall apply unless otherwise indicated.

Sub-section 2.1: Substitute PIP with SES and add ASTM standard as follows:
SABIC Engineering Standards (SES)
B02-S01 Fabrication of Structural and Miscellaneous Steel
B04-F03 Pipe Railings
American Society of Testing Material (ASTM)
ASTM A780 Standard Practice for Repair of Damaged and Uncoated Areas of Hot-Dip
Galvanized Coatings

Sub-Section 4.3: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


Stair railing and wall-mounted hand railing shall be made of carbon steel pipe in accordance
with SES B04-F03. Angle railing shall not be used for these applications.

Sub-Section 4.7: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


Railing assemblies shall be galvanized after fabrication in accordance with SES B02-S01.
Field damage to the galvanization shall be repaired in accordance with ASTM A780.

Add the following new sub-section.


Sub-Section 4.10: General arrangement and details of the angle railings shall be as shown in
page 4 to 14 together with the details shown in this addendum.
