1. Purpose
Process Industry Practice PIP STF05511, April 2002 issue is adopted as a SABIC Engineering
Standard (SES) with the following addendum.

2. Addenda
The following section and paragraph numbers refer to PIP STF05511, April 2002.

Sub-section 1.2, Paragraph 3: Modify paragraph as follows:


Any conflicts or inconsistencies between this standard and the other standards, engineering
drawings shall be resolved at the discretion of SABIC.

Section 2: Add the following paragraph:


Reference is made in this standard to the following documents. The latest issues,
amendments and supplements of these documents shall apply unless otherwise indicated.

Sub-section 2.1: Substitute PIP with SES as follows:


SABIC Engineering Standards (SES)
B02-S01 Fabrication of Structural and Miscellaneous Steel
B02-S02 Specification for Erection of Structural Steel
B04-F03 Pipe Railings

Sub-Section 3.2: Substitute PIP STS05120 with SES B02-S01.

Sub-Section 3.3: Substitute PIP STS05120 with SES B02-S01.

Sub-Section 3.5: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


Maximum height between landings shall not exceed 3600mm.

Sub-Section 3.6: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


Stair width shall be 750mm unless noted otherwise. The Engineer shall check the stair width
against its functional requirement and the total occupant load served by the stairway.
Following are the guidelines:
 For 20 people or fewer, the minimum width shall be 750 mm.
 For 21 to 49 people, the minimum width shall be 910 mm.
 For 50 or more people, the minimum width shall be 1120 mm.

Sub-Section 3.8: Add the following paragraph:


Riser and tread should be 190 mm and 250 mm, wherever possible.

Sub-Section 3.9: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


Pipe railing shall be provided for all stairs. Stairway handrails shall be continuous with landing
and platform handrails. Pipe railing shall comply with the requirements of SES B04-F03.

Sub-Section 3.10: Substitute the paragraph with the following:


Stair assemblies shall be galvanized after fabrication in accordance with SES B02-S01.

Sub-Section 3.11: Substitute PIP STS05130 with SES B02-S02.

Add the following new sub-section.


Sub-Section 3.12: General arrangement and details of the stairway shall be as shown in page 5 to
11 together with the details shown in this addendum.
