Hello everyone,

Good Morning, and thank you for having me here today. It is truly an honour to stand before
you and share my journey through the AMEP program at Navitas Skilled Futures .

Almost five years ago, I joined the AMEP’s Volunteer Tutor Scheme, and was paired with an
incredible English tutor named Steve. I expected to improve my English, but I did not expect
that this partnership would become the catalyst for transforming my life.

But let me take you back to a time when I was struggling. Homesickness would often
overwhelm me, and the desire to return to Indonesia became stronger every day. I found
myself working odd jobs, from cleaning to car washing, even packing, all in an effort to
support my family financially. I couldn’t attend an AMEP college due to my need to work, so
thank goodness for the VTS. It was during this time that Steve's unwavering support became
my guiding light.

He believed in me when I couldn't see my own potential. Steve constantly reminded me not
to compare myself to others but to focus on my own growth and development. He would say,
"Don't compare yourself with others; focus on yourself. You can only control what's inside
you, not what's outside."

These words became my mantra, empowering me to push through the challenges and keep
pursuing my dreams. Steve's guidance, motivation, and mentorship were instrumental in
helping me overcome the obstacles that stood in my way. He instilled in me the belief that
anything is possible if I set my mind to it.

Today, I proudly share that I graduated from the Diploma of Design and Visual
Communication at Western Sydney University. However, my journey continues as I am
currently completing my bachelor's degree in the same field. Additionally, I have been
fortunate to work at Royal North Shore Hospital, offering vital support as a Patient
Transporter. Moreover, I am pursuing my passion as a Web Designer at a renowned digital
marketing company in Sydney. These accomplishments are a testament to the unwavering
support and guidance provided by the AMEP program and, of course, Steve.

To all the English tutors here today, I want to convey that your dedication and commitment
truly make a difference in the lives of individuals like myself. Your role extends beyond
teaching the English language; you are catalysts for personal growth and empowerment.
And to all my fellow students, I want to assure you that your dreams are valid, and with the
right support and determination, you can achieve them. The AMEP program and the
incredible tutors within it are here to guide you, inspire you, and remind you that the journey
may be challenging, but it's worth every step.

In conclusion, I am eternally grateful for the opportunity the Navitas provided me and for the
extraordinary support I received from my tutor, Steve. Their belief in me transformed my life,
and now I stand here as living proof of the program's success.

Thank you all for listening to my story. Let us celebrate the 75th anniversary of AMEP and
the countless lives it has positively impacted. Thank you.
