HISTORY OF INTERNET

Internet roots in a network called ARPANET, created by U.S Department of Defense's Advanced
Research Projects Agency (ARPA). This network was designed for communication between researchers
and scientists in case of a nuclear attack. ARPANET first message sent in 1969 between UCLA and
Stanford Research Institute computers.

In 1970s and 1980s, ARPANET evolved into NSFNET, a widespread network funded by National Science
Foundation (NSF). NSFNET connected supercomputers across U.S universities using TCP/IP protocols,
crucial for scientific research.

World Wide Web (WWW) is created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. He developed a system for users to
access information through hypertext links. Initially used by CERN researchers, it became public in 1991.

Internet commercialization started in 1990s with companies like AOL, Compuserve, and Prodigy offering
dial-up connections for a fee. This led to increased internet usage as more people got computers at
home or workplaces. In 1993, first web browser Mosaic released, making web navigation easier.

IMPACTS OF INTERNET/ CONCLUSION

Broadband internet in late 1990s and early 2000s accelerated internet growth. It enabled technologies
like video streaming, online gaming, and cloud computing. Today, internet is essential for transforming
communication, information access, business, etc. It gave birth to new industries such as e-commerce,
social media, and online advertising. Future of internet is uncertain because in todays evolution of
internet there is now what we call Artificial Intelligence which we don't know yet what will be it's impact
in humanity in the future.
