Energy of the Simple Harmonic Oscillator

Elastic potential energy

That is, the total mechanical energy of a simple harmonic scillator is a constant of the
motion and is proportional to the square of the amplitude.
Why we are spending long time for studying the simple harmonic motion

Because vibration of atoms with small amplitude is represented by simple harmonic motion

the forces holding atoms together

The Pendulum
Simple pendulum

the period and frequency of a simple pendulum depend only on the length of the
string and the acceleration due to gravity
Physical Pendulum
Torsional Pendulum
Damped Oscillations

Retarding force

where b is a constant called the damping coefficient

and v is the velocity

The solution of this equation requires mathematics

that may not be familiar to you; we simply state it here
without proof.
