The use of video cameras in public places to reduce crime is
increasing in many cities, but some believe that these measures
limit our personal freedom. Do the benefits of the increased security outweigh the disadvantages? Some believe that security cameras installed in public places can help reduce the crime rate, while others believe that they only regulate individual freedom. While it is sometimes true that surveillance cameras can make people feel uncomfortable and harassed, the use of this type of security device is, in my opinion, more beneficial to society.
On the one hand, security cameras in public places have negative
effects in various ways. First, the installation of public surveillance equipment can watch everything around the clock. When you walk down the street, drive a car or meet friends, you can be monitored and this creates a complete picture of your private life that you don't want other people to know about you. Another controversy worth mentioning is that surveillance cameras have not been proven to be effective in reducing crime. Despite the fact that there are many security devices installed in public places, we often hear scary messages from criminals or unexpected drivers. In addition, some extreme road pirates are not even deterred by the fact that there is a camera in certain places.
On the other hand, it is worth mentioning and realizing that
installing more video surveillance equipment is better for people and public safety. It is true that cameras placed in public places can be used as a means of tracking any wrongdoing, which increases safety in everyday life. In some cases, crimes can be stopped even before they start. If a suspicious person or a dangerous object is spotted in the area, appropriate authorities can be contacted to manage the situation before harm is done as a precautionary measure. Also, if the crime is committed in a public space where a security camera is installed, the chances of catching the offender are much greater. If a person is captured by a camera in committing a crime, posters can be created using recorded images, which can also be broadcast on television to help spread information about the criminal.
Overall, we know that many people are concerned about the
presence of such equipment, but I still believe that the benefits we derive from this form of public safety outweigh the disadvantages.
