Scenario: A Mathematics teacher will teach about integers.
Assessment for Learning
(Before and During)
Diagnostic Assessment
Before she starts the lesson
proper, she would like to know
how much the students know
about integers, she may ask the
students what they know, and
what they want to know
regarding the topic. From the
responses of her students, she
will get an idea of what she’s
going to elaborate on.
Assessment of Learning
Formative Assessment
During the lesson proper the
teacher may present creative
visuals, participative class, and
quizzes. Based on the
observations and results of the
activities given to the students,
a teacher may assess whether
the students learn from their
teaching methods.

Summative Assessment
In Junior Highschool, a whole
year is divided into 4 periods
in which periodical tests or
performance-based tasks are
given at the end of each
quarter in every subject. The
results of the paper-pencil test
or performance-based task
will determine the
competencies of the student
and the effectiveness of the
program. This is also when a
judgment by the teacher will
apply to whether the student
will move on to the next grade
level.
