Example Problem Derivation

A concrete hollow block wall has general dimension of 3.00 meters high by 5.00 meters long. Determine:

a. Total Number CHB

b. Volume of Mortar for 100mm and 150mm thk CHB

c. Number of bags of cement for both thickness

d. Volume of Sand for both thickness

Class Mixture Proportion Cement in Bags Sand

40 kgs. cu.m.
A 1:2 18.0 1.0

B 1:3 12.0 1.0

C 1:4 9.0 1.0

D 1:5 7.5 1.0

Cement100 = 0.6525(12) = 7.83 bags

Cement150 = 1.26(12) = 15.12 bags

Sand100 = 0.6525(1) = 0.6525 m3

Sand150 = 1.26(1) = 1.26 m3

Total Area of Wall is 15.00 m2

Plastering

Mortar Computation for Plastering

a. Find the two sides area of the wall:

A = (3.00)(5.00)(2 sides) = 30m2

b. Assume 1” of plaster, determine the volume:

V = (30)(0.012) = 0.36m3

c. Using Class B, determine no. of cement and sand:

Cement = (0.36)(12) = 4.32 say 5 bags

Sand = (0.36)(1) = 0.36m2
