Chapter 3: Understanding Globalisation and Communication

Objective: Students should be able to:

Assess how new forms of communication technologies have an impact on globalization and the
economy of Trinidad and Tobago.

Review from previous class: Definitions-

Communication- the imparting or exchanging of information by speaking, writing, or using some

other medium.

Communication Technology- Communications technology, also known as information

technology, refers to all equipment and programs that are used to process and communicate
information. It increases the ways in which information can be communicated, the speed of
transmission and total volume that can be handled at any one time. It helps people communicate
more information to more people in less time with greater accuracy and fewer misunderstanding.

Information Communication Technology (ICT)- the term is generally accepted to mean all
devices, networking components, applications and systems that combined allow people and
organizations (i.e., businesses, nonprofit agencies, governments and criminal enterprises) to
interact in the digital world.
