This SBA began with four diligent students who joined forces to select the broad and

innovative theme of Technology. We then moved on and chose our subtopics: Electric
Cars, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cellphones and Video Games. For this section of the
SBA - The Written Report, we decided to use the ‘Divide and Conquer Strategy’. We
broke up bigger tasks into smaller ones and delegated those tasks to a different
member of the group.

After numerous discussions and meetings we finally narrowed down to two research
questions to focus on for our written report. They were: ‘The Benefits of Technology in
Education’ and ‘How Affordable are Electric Cars?’ After that, we thoroughly researched
and gathered information. We then selected three artifacts according to the specified
questions which were two articles and a YouTube video.

The research question ‘The Benefits of Technology in Education’ was answered using a
video from YouTube. The video titled ‘Why Is Technology Important In Education?’ by
New EdTech Classroom (2020) argues that technology is crucial in education because
it prepares students for the digital world, helps them develop skills for future jobs, closes
the digital divide, and engages students in learning. It also emphasizes the importance
of using technology to differentiate instruction, help students find their voice, reduce
teacher workload, and deepen the school-to-home connection. We specifically chose
this artifact because it highlighted the positive effects of technology-integrated education
and how it is transforming the nature of learning. It demonstrated how technology can
enhance accessibility while adapting educational processes.

The other research question was conducted on ‘How Affordable are Electric Cars?’
involved the examination of the two articles. The first article ‘Will electric cars become
more affordable?’ by MG Motors (2019). The article spoke about electric cars carrying a
higher price tag compared to traditional gas and hybrid cars due to advanced
technology, but signs indicate a potential decline in costs. Factors such as decreasing
battery prices, driven by advancements in manufacturing and design, alongside the
simplicity of electric motors leading to lower production costs, contribute to this trend.
Additionally, the lower cost of charging electric vehicles compared to petrol cars and the
growing availability of affordable pre-owned electric cars further enhance their
affordability. With the increasing adoption of electric vehicles and the planned petrol ban
in 2030, the market is poised for greater accessibility across diverse budgets,
suggesting a potential shift towards more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly
transportation options.
The second article ‘Electric vs. Gas Cars: Is It Cheaper to Drive an EV?’ by Courtney
Lindwall (2023). The article states that comparing electric and gas-powered cars
provides valuable insights for those contemplating whether or not to switch to electric
vehicles (EVs). While the initial cost comparison might seem intimidating, the long-term
advantages of EV ownership often outweigh the upfront investment. Recent trends
indicate a significant decline in the average price of new EVs, making them increasingly
competitive with traditional gas-powered cars in terms of initial purchase costs.
Moreover, government incentives and tax credits serve to further bridge the gap in cost.
Beyond the upfront expenses, EVs typically deliver substantial savings in fuel and
maintenance costs over their lifetime. These factors, coupled with the environmental
benefits of reduced emissions, make the transition to EVs an attractive and sensible
choice for environmentally conscious consumers seeking both financial and ecological
sustainability.

Our group worked well together, with everyone pitching in to gather information for our
research questions. While some parts were tricky to analyze, we overcame these
challenges through teamwork and dedication. This experience highlighted how
technology can improve education and showed us the affordability of electric cars. We
learned a lot and appreciated the benefits of using technology for learning and the
potential savings of going electric.
