FLIGHT COMPARTMENT

1. General
Flight compartment lighting system provides the necessary power for the flight compartment
lighting equipments and controls the brightness of the lighting equipment.

2. System Description
A. Functions
The flight compartment lighting system uses white light illumination. The flight
compartment lighting works in two operating modes: normal lighting, emergency lighting;
it provides following illuminations: main lighting, auxiliary lighting, general lighting and
control equipments.
The main lighting provides the instrument lighting and light plate lighting for the
instruments, equipments and controls panel on the instrument panel, glare shield,
consoles, overhead control panel and C/B PNL. Brightness of the main lighting is
adjustable.
Auxiliary lighting provides the flood light for the instruments, displays, control panel and
control equipments on the instrument panel, glare shield, consoles and C/B PNL.
Brightness of the auxiliary lighting is adjustable.
The dome light and reading light provide general lighting in the flight compartment.
The LH and RH lighting receptacles are provided as the electrical power supply (115 VAC)
for work light which is used for illumination when repairing the equipments.
The lighting control panel on the LH and RH consoles and the overhead control panel are
the control equipments for the flight compartment lighting.
B. Operation principle
The main lighting power is supplied by 115 VAC bus (except the lighting for the audio
panel). The transformer in the lighting power supply box firstly converts 115 VAC into 28
VAC, and then transmits to the variable transformer (adjusting the brightness) on each
control panel. Then the variable transformer outputs (0 to 28) VAC power to the pillar
lights outside the instrument. At the same time, the variable transformer outputs (0 to 28)
VAC power to the step-down transformer (not adjustable), which outputs (0 to 5) VAC
power to the equipments for internal lighting and light plate lighting
For the audio panel lighting, 28 V DC bus supplies power to the audio panel light plate.
The brightness is adjustable by variable resistor.
The instrument panel is equipped with four flood light boxes. Each flood light box is
equipped with a fluorescent tube and three incandescent lights (one is used for
emergency lighting). The brightness is controlled by the corresponding knob. Under
normal lighting conditions, the two incandescent lights come on first. When the
brightness adjustment knob is rotated to the limit position ( brightest), the fluorescent
tube comes on , and the incandescent lights go off at the same time.
Both LH and RH consoles are equipped with a flood light box. Three flood light boxes are

EFF:ALL 33-10-00

emergency power box and emergency flashlight. It has the following features:
In emergency conditions, when the normal lighting system is in failure, the emergency
lighting system can assist the attendants to determine the location, and then operate and
use the cabin emergency exit, to assist the attendants in evacuation . In addition, under
fire conditions when all the sources of illumination more than 1.2 m (3.937 ft) above the
cabin floor are obscured by smoke and gases; or in the dark of night conditions, it can
work independently as follows:
(1) Ensure that every passenger can see the cabin floor passageway (less than 1.2 m
(3.937 ft) above the cabin floor) and identify the emergency evacuation paths after
leaving the passenger seat;
(2) Ensure that every passenger can easily identify each emergency exit from the
emergency evacuation paths by only referring the marking and visual feature which
are not more than 1.2 m (3.937 ft) abovethe cabin floor;
(3) Ensure there are illumination in the area of 0.2 m2 (341.001 in2) where the evacuees
