Task 05-51-12-210-801
(1) This maintenance procedure gives you the instructions to do the inspection after
exposure to strong winds on the ground.
(2) If the aircraft exposes very high winds (Wind speed > 100 km/h (54 kt)) of any
direction with the included angle between the wind direction and fuselage
longitudinal axis greater than 45° while parking on ground, do this inspection
procedure.
(3) The inspection procedure is not necessary if the included angle between wind
direction and fuselage longitudinal axis does not exceed 45°, the wind direction
remains unchanged, the aircraft is unmoving, the gust lock is locked and the wind
speed is not greater than 113 km/h (61.02 kt). Do this inspection procedure if the
wind speed exceeds 113 km/h (61.02 kt).

MA60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL (PART II MPP)
Task 05-51-21-210-801
(1) This maintenance procedure gives you the instructions to do the inspection after
heavy dust accumulation.
(a) The dust particles can be of different dimensions, they can go into all orifices.
The dust can stay:
- In all corners;
(b) The dust may cause corrosion/wear on the aircraft surface, and can damage the
protective finishing layer, therefore leading to damage/corrosion. The dust may
also contaminate the aircraft systems and filter elements.
(c) In addition to the above characteristics, some dusts (such as volcanic ash) will
melt in the combustion section of the engine. The melted dust is highly viscous
and easily sticks to the engine parts, decreasing the engine performance. Also,
the dust may block the fuel injector and cause the engine shutdown.
(d) The volcanic ash can cause serious damage/corrosion to the aircraft
system/structure, and it is impossible to estimate the induced damage in
quantity and type. Therefore a complete inspection must be done to understand
the damage and determine the necessary repair measures.
(e) All the necessary inspections are visual unless the text gives other instructions.
(f) If you find damage to the aircraft structure, Ref. the Structural Repair Manual
(SRM). The SRM has the approved damage limits and repair procedures.

(1) Examine the wheel axle for damage, deformation and crack or not. If necessary,
magnetic crack detection must be done.
(2) Examine carefully the wheel bearing for damage and over-burned or not. Examine
carefully if the rotation is flexible. If not, replace the bearings.
(3) Examine the brake discs. The entire set of brake discs must be replaced under these
situations:
(a) If the clips and rivets used to connect brake blocks are broken or missing.
(b) If there is a large area of fissile layer (more than 15% of total area of friction;
more than 1.25 mm(0.049 in) in depth) on the friction surface of the brake disc
and the material becomes crisp (press the carbon disk with fingers and an
indentation will occur. The crisp area is more than 0.5 cm2(0.155 in2) and more
than 1 mm(0.039 in) in depth).
(4) Examine if there is blockage in each oil hole of cylinder base assembly of each brake
unit and if the piston can move freely. If not, disassemble and examine it.
(5) Examine if tires are exploded, if there is serious wear on the tire with exposed steel
wire cord; and if the air pressure is enough. If not, replace tires.
E. Close-up
Install wheel assemblies (Ref. Task 32-44-11-400-801) and brake device (Ref. Task

MA60 AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE MANUAL (PART II MPP)
Task 05-51-71-210-801
(1) This maintenance procedure gives you the instructions to do the Inspection after
lightning strike.
(2) Lightning strike cannot be avoided even if the aircraft is provided with lightning
protection measures.
(3) When the aircraft is struck by lightning, it becomes lightning conductive. Lightning
entry point and exit point are usually located at the nose, tail cone, wing tip,
horizontal tail tip, vertical tail tip, rudder trailing edge, elevator trailing edge, propeller
blade tip, nacelle end and antenna, etc. Lightning usually hits the aircraft
consecutively (Each lasts 0.1 s) and leaves a trail of scattered burn marks on aircraft
surface along the direction of flight course. Some areas may not be stricken by
lightning, but still serve as conductive body between entry point and exit point.
(4) The damage to aircraft varies due to various intensity and duration of lightning
current. Lightning current passes through aircraft surface between entry point and
exit point.
(5) After lightning strike, visible damages include burnt marks, burnt holes, and paint
discoloration. Burnt marks usually scatter on aircraft surface in consecutive lines.
(6) For composite-material structural elements made from glass fiber reinforced plastic
the damages after lightning strike include finishing paint discoloration/ blister and
sandwich plate penetration.

(g) Examine if the radome and lightning strips are severely damaged, examine the
radome installation edge, radar antenna and waveguide.
(a) Examine all radio communication and navigation systems are working normally.
(b) If the lightning strike makes one generator failed. Examine the generator, its
control panel and control circuIt which shall be free of damage or overheat. If the
power distribution system is damaged and some equipment can not work,
examine the circuit breaker panel and power supply feeder.
(c) Make sure that the difference between the heading value on the standby
magnetic compass and that on the left pilot EHSI is less than ±8°. If not, the
standby magnetic compass must be calibrated again.
(a) Examine the propeller blades for damage if lightning hits them. If the propeller is
damage, disassemble to check.
a Carefully examine the blade tip, nickel sheath, and blade shank areas.
2 You can continue to use the propeller blade for no more than 10 FH if there
are signs of lightning damage at the blade tip or nickel sheath, and it is not
more than a depth of 0.25 in (6.35 mm).
4 Remove the propeller blades from use at the end of the 10 FH if repairs
have not been made.
To understand better the condition of the aircraft structure and system after lightning
strikes to further improve lightning protection measures. Report the lightning strike
damage to AVIC XAC in time. Fill in the report and deliver it to AVIC XAC. The report
must include these contents:

y Turn the valve counterclockwise and, at the same time, turn the
blades by hand in the low pitch direction.
y You can turn the propeller to lower pitch with auxiliary motor
and pump, instead of step (4) (a) 2 c para 2.
NOTE: The auxiliary motor and pump uses oil from the
engine gearbox gear oil reservoir and it can empty
the reservoir if it is operated when the engine is not
running. The reservoir can be replenished if you use
the starter motor to motor over the engine.
——Set the blades out to their fully extended position. To do this you
must:
Remove the bolts (16) and washers (15) from one retainer plate
(14) (Ref. Fig 602).
Remove the outboard spherical packing (17) (Ref. Fig 602). Use
needle-nose pliers to do this. As an alternative to pliers, you can
use a thin, fiberglass tool to pry out the packing.
Measure the distance from a set point, to a point on the face side
of the blade 2 in (50.80 mm) inboard of the tip at mid chord.
