At the end of this lesson, you should be able to discuss the nature of staffing
(ABM_AOM11-IIa-b20).

Recall
Staffing is the filling in all organizational job positions needed by the
management to achieve its goals and objectives. What makes it so important
is the fact that it plays a large role in achieving an organization’s goals.
Staffing is not as simple as its definition. The Staffing Phases are the
following: Identifying job position vacancies and job and workforce
requirements.
1. Recruiting and carefully selecting potential employees
2. Training and developing hired employees
3. Creating healthy and good relationships with the employees
4. Aiding the employees’ movement in the organization
5. Giving employees compensation and benefits
6. Evaluating employees performance
7. Rewarding employees based on their performance in the organization
Without effective and proper staffing, it is impossible to fill in the vacant
positions with the right employees and to keep the well-performing
employees in the organization.

Anna is a start-up entrepreneur. She established a food business in Makati. She can’t
commit all of her time to the business so she hired people to work for her. Since then, the
business has consistently grown, and Anna has decided to open another branch in
Alabang. She identified that she will be in need of a store manager, a cashier, a
three-member store crew, and a security guard. She posted about the job openings on
social media then conducted interviews and carefully selected her potential employees.
She discussed the training programs that she offers with them and negotiated the
compensation and benefits that they would be getting once they were hired. She also
spoke to them about the potential rewards if they exceed their expected performance
every quarter.
