Quarter 3: Empathizing with Others

I. Objectives
a. Content Standard
The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature and others text types
serves as sources of wisdom in expressing and resolving conflicts among individuals,
groups, and nature; also how to use evaluating reading, listening and viewing strategies,
special speeches for occasion, pronouns and structure modification.
b. Performance Standard
The learner skillfully delivers a speech for special occasion through utilizing effective
verbal and non-verbal strategies and ICT resources.

I. Learning Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
1. Identify the elements of the story in the reading material Federigo’s Falcon through cooperative
station learning:
2. Illustrate the different expressed forms of love of Federigo and Mona; and
3. Show the value of selflessness through differentiated performance tasks.

Good morning, class!

Good morning ma’am!
Let us pray, lead the prayer Mr./Ms. A.
 Let us pray, Praise be thy name of our Lord
Jesus Christ, now and forever amen.
Who are absent today?
No one is absent today Ma’am.
Wow that is great. Now before we proceed to
our lesson please go back to your original seats,
and keep your phones inside your bags. The students will follow.

Motivation
Before we proceed to the lesson proper, I want
to show you a short video clip. Please analyze
the theme of the video.

What is the video all about? Ma’am I think the video is about the selfless
love of a man to his wife.
Exactly. For today’s lesson we will see how
powerful love is, and what love can do to a
person.
b. Lesson Proper

1. Before Reading
Last meeting, I asked you to research
about the Decameron during your modular
mode of learning. Did you do it? Yes, Ma’am!

Very good. Can someone share his or her
findings about the Decameron?
Alright very good. The Decameron compromises
of 100 Novellas told by three men and seven
women. Over a ten-day journey away from the

first unlock the meaning of the difficult words
from the story.

behavior that a person habitually uses
4. Falcon – a bird of prey, with long
pointed wings and a notched beak,
typically catching it from above.
5. Consternation – feeling of anxiety or
dismay, typically at something
unexpected
6. Squandered – waste in a reckless and
foolish manner
7. Reproached – address in a such as way
to express disapproval or
disappointment

2. During Reading
Since the selection is too long, I asked you to do
an advance reading of the story.

I think the author is mournful while writing the story.

As mentioned earlier in the setting of the story is in
Europe, and that time there was a plague that
affected over 80 % of the country. It reflects in the
story because there were many deaths and loses
that happened in the story.

Post Reading

Very good! For further discussion, we will divide

you into groups. Each group will accomplish the
Plot Diagram.

Here’s what you are going to do: I will give each

group a picture that will form the plot of the
story. The group will post on the board the
proper sequence of the picture according to the
story. This is one way for us to summarize the
story. Each group will present their answers Yes, Ma’am.

Federigo? How did Federigo feel after knowing
Mona’s purpose for the visit?
7. How did Mona and Federigo feel about the
incident?
8. What happened to Mona’s son? What had
become of Mona? Of Federigo?

Application
Okay then let’s have our group activity. With the
same group, here is what you are going to do.
1. Federigo and Mona, Mona is the greatest love of
Federigo that he is willing to sacrifice anything for
her.
2. Federigo lost all of his fortune because he offered
everything for his love.
3. Mona's husband died leaving them and her son
great wealth and money.
4. The son asked for Federigo’s falcon.
5. Mona went to Federigo’s place. She was
welcomed by Federigo by preparing her a pleasant
meal.
6. Her purpose was to ask Federigo for his Falcon
because it is the request of his sick son. After
knowing her purpose, Federigo burst into tears
knowing that he cannot grant her request anymore.
7. They both felt disappointed and sad.
8. Mona’s son died. Soon afterwards, Mona and
Federigo became husband and wife and live happily.

Group 1 will recite a spoken poetry about the

love story of Federigo and Mona.

Group 2 will make a comparison of how men

court women in the old days compare to the
present day.

Group 3 will write a slogan about the theme of

the selection “Selfless love”

Group 4 will assume the character of Federigo

and will write a love letter to Mona. Each group
will have 5 minutes to present their works.

To wrap up our discussion, what did you learn
from today’s discussion? Students will have their group presentation.
