The students will submit their assignments.

Motivation
Before we proceed to the lesson proper, I want
to show you a short video clip. Please analyze
the theme of the video.

(Video will be played)

What is the video all about? Ma’am I think the video is about the selfless
love of a man to his wife.
Exactly. For today’s lesson we will see how
powerful love is, and what love can do to a
person.
b. Lesson Proper

1. Before Reading
Last meeting, I asked you to research
about the Decameron during your modular
mode of learning. Did you do it? Yes, Ma’am!

Very good. Can someone share his or her The Decameron was written by Giovanni
findings about the Decameron? Boccaccio (1313-1375), during this period,
Europe was suffering from Bubonic plague or

plague-infested Florence. The Decameron is said
to be a portrayal of everyday life including wit,
and mockery. The title comes from the two
Greek words deka meaning 10 and hemera
means day.

This is the map of Europe which shows the

countries affected by the plague. Around 80% of
Europe was hit by the plague. This is where the
story took place.

Do you have any questions so far?

None Ma’am.
Unlocking of Difficulties
Before we discuss the Federigo’s Falcon, let us
first unlock the meaning of the difficult words
from the story.
1. Reckoning – a person’s view, opinion, or
judgement
2. Largesse – generosity in bestowing
money or gifts upon others
3. Repertoire – a stock of skills or types or
behavior that a person habitually uses
4. Falcon – a bird of prey, with long
pointed wings and a notched beak,
typically catching it from above.
5. Consternation – feeling of anxiety or
dismay, typically at something
unexpected
6. Squandered – waste in a reckless and
foolish manner
7. Reproached – address in a such as way
to express disapproval or
disappointment
Do you have any questions? Any clarification?

2. During Reading
Since the selection is too long, I asked you to do
an advance reading of the story.

Did you read the story? If you really did, will you
describe the characters in the story? Federigo. He loves selflessly. His generosity led him

story? loves.

Mona. As a mother, she will do anything for her son.

As I read the story I feel bad for Federigo because he

lost all his possession but at the same time I am
happy because at the end he married his true love.

I was very touched with the kinds of love the

characters have shown in the story. The
unconditional love of Mona to her son and the
selfless love Federigo towards Mona.

Excellent! What attitude of the author is

reflected in the selection?

I think the author is mournful while writing the story.

As mentioned earlier in the setting of the story is in
Europe, and that time there was a plague that
affected over 80 % of the country. It reflects in the
story because there were many deaths and loses
that happened in the story.

Post Reading

Very good! For further discussion, we will divide

you into groups. Each group will accomplish the
Plot Diagram.

Here’s what you are going to do: I will give each

group a picture that will form the plot of the
story. The group will post on the board the
proper sequence of the picture according to the
story. This is one way for us to summarize the
story. Each group will present their answers Yes, Ma’am.
