Semi-detailed lesson in English

For grade 10

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the 60-minute session, students should be able to:
a. Recognize and describe the essential components of the story “My Last Duchess” including its
Character, Plot, Setting, Conflict and theme.

b. Create a story incorporating the fundamental elements of a story (Character, Plot,


Setting, Conflict, and Theme).
c. Participate actively in a group discussion, sharing their story and demonstrating their
commitment to engaging others emotionally through their narrative.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Identifying key elements of a story is crucial for developing the four
macro-skills.
b. Reference: K to 12 curriculum guides,

c. Materials: Mobile phone, Paper and pen, Handouts.
d. Value Integration: Students are encouraged to demonstrate their willingness to
share their creative work and show cooperation in the group activity with their
peers and teacher.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Daily routine
The teacher will ask the class president to pray in front of the class.
• Greeting/ Classroom management
The teacher asks the students to pick up the trash and put it away.
• Checking Of Attendance
B. Review/ lesson preview
The teacher asks what was the topic last meeting and gave a brief recall.
C. Motivation
The hunger games.
Guidelines for the activity: The teacher will pick a name on the box, the box contains the names
of the students, whoever gets pick needs to identify the four picture and give one word to
describe the illustration.
D. Lesson proper
a. Content and skill building
The teacher presents a PowerPoint presentation to the class about The key Elements Of A Story.
- The key elements of a story are Character, Plot, Setting, Conflict, and Theme.
CHARACTER – Characters are the people (or animals, or even inanimate objects) who
have a role to play in the story.

CONFLICT- Conflict is the problem in the story. A conflict can be internal, like when a
character’s battling with their inner demons. Or it can be external, like when a character’s
battling something outside of themselves – another character, or extreme weather
conditions.

PLOT - Plot is what happens in the story. It’s the content. The meat on the bones. The
plot structure includes the entire series of events that unfold at different parts of a story.

SETTING - Setting is where your story takes place. Not just the physical location, but the
time it’s set in, too. It’s the where and the when of the story.

THEME - Theme is the main idea of your story. It’s the reason why you bothered to
spend hours grafting away on this piece of work, what’s it all about?

b. Guided practice
Guideline for the activity:
- Each student will have a copy of the story My last duchess by Robert browning. The
teacher will read aloud the story and the students are reading their handouts as well,
after reading the story the teacher will call on random students to tell their
understanding about the key elements of a story.

c. Independent activity
Guidelines for the activity:
- the class will Write their own story It can be about their personal life or a work of fiction
the class will be given 8 minutes to write their own short story consisting the key
elements of a story, then after will be given another 2 minute to share their work in front
of their peers and teacher.

SPACE RACE
Guideline for the activity: the students will be grouped into 3 and bring out 1 device per group,
The group that got to the finish line first wins.

IV. EVALUATION
The students will bring out crosswise and answer the given questioners, the students will be
given 10-minutes to finish the activity.
