Content Standard: The Learner demonstrates understanding of the strategies in listening to
and viewing of informative and short narrative text.

Performance Standard: The learner transfer learning by comprehending informative and


short narrative texts using schema and appropriate listening and viewing strategies.

Learning Competencies: EN7WC-III-a-2.2.12: Features of narrative writing

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the students should be able to;

B. Arrange the sequence of events in the story

Material: Cartolina, printed copy of the selection, “Why the Sea is Salty”

“Continue the Story” game

(The teacher will start a sentence then call a student to continue. They can be creative in
making their sentence.)
C. Activities

(The teacher will ask the students if they already read the story and ask one student about
the setting, theme, characters of the story)

(Ask the students if they have knowledge about what narrative writing is. The teacher will
present the definition of narrative writing. He or She will make a Web Chart and let the
students write a word that can associate the word narrative)

Features of Narrative Writing

1. Characters – the individual involved in the story.

2. Setting – the place and time the story takes place.

3. Plot – the sequence of events in the story

 Exposition – the beginning


 Complication – the conflict or the problem in the story
 Climax – the turning point which occurs when characters try to resolve the
problem.
 Resolution – the set of events that bring the story to a close
4. Conflict – the complication of the problem in the story.
5. Point of view – the point of view from which the story being told.
 First person point of view
 Second person point of view
 Third person point of view
6. Theme - the moral lesson of the story.
D. Abstraction
Narrative is a story that is told or written.
Features of narrative writing includes characters, setting, plot, conflict, point of
view, and theme.
Characters are the individuals involved in the story
Setting is the place and time the story takes place.
Plot is the sequence of events in the story.
Conflict is the complication or the problem in the story.
Point of view is the point of view from which the story is being told.
Theme is the moral lesson of the story.

E. Application

Directions: Group yourselves into a five (5). Read the selection “Why the Sea is Salty”
and answer the following questions. Write your answers on a one (1) whole sheet of
paper.
1. What is the setting of the story? Identify the place and time of the story happened.

2.Who are the characters in the story? Identify their relation to each other.

3. What was the problem of Marag-sa-tubig? What did he do to solve his problem?

4. How did the story ends?

5. What lessons did you learn from the story?
