Kelkar Museum
Satellite Exhibition
Like the Museum of Modern Art, New
York City and the MoMa PS1 art
institution acting as the satellite
auxiliary to the parent organization,
the proposed exhibition centre on
the confluence of the Mula Mutha
River, Pune will be a Satellite
Exhibition Centre of the Kelkar
Museum in Pune.

Not only is there a need for such a

centre to act as an auxiliary to the
renowned museum, it also serves the
purpose of re-vitalizing the
Sangamwadi area with the
upcoming riverfront development
projects.

SAILBOAT PAVILLION

Inspired by a sailboat, The Pavilion, an iconic structure at a

seaplane terminal in Maharashtra, India, features a sloped
roof with curved beams that soar above ground level. The
structure is wrapped with perforated louver screens, which
give it the appearance of a sailboat’s full sails. At the roof’s
highest point, on the coast-facing side, three columns angle
down to the ground and attach to a single point, forming a
triangle, which resembles a boat anchor.

The roof appears to float on two rows of steel columns. One

column supports the inclined roof, which creates a floating
effect. At the tops and bottoms of the columns, Rohan Deore
Architects specified custom stainless steel pin joints, which
continue the floating roof appearance. At the roof, the pin
joints are attached to inclined trusses. Harsh Constructions
installed APL Apollo Tubes Ltd.’s columns with an epoxy paint
satin finish. The columns were produced with 12-mm-thick
steel and have a 210-mm diameter.

For the roof, Harsh Constructions installed 13,853 square feet of

Mumbai-based JSW Steel’s 0.5-mm-thick Galvalume roof
panels in Off White. At the southwest end of the roof, opposite
the anchor columns, Harsh Constructions built a skylight with
pergolas and glass. To construct a false ceiling, Harsh
Constructions installed Kolkata, West Bengal, India-based Tata
Structure's 0.5-mm-thick Galvalume ceiling panels.

VSI CONVENTION CENTER, PUNE

The VSI Convention center is a proposal for an internal

exhibition and convention center in Pune. It features a slightly
deformed hemispherical dome with two large openings
flanking either side.

The structure is composed of two layers of steel grids. The first

is the internal steel truss grid supporting the entire structure
and the second is the external grid which blankets the
cladded panels for metal sheathing of the structure. The
openings are supported with inclined hollow core steel
columns, typical steel accessories and foundation.

INFOSYS, PUNE

Infosys Pune is a composite structure designed by Ar. Hafeez

Contractor. It features an egg like shape supported by
inclined vertical supports composed of steel cast within RCC
for added stability. The entire curtain wall for the entire
structure is supported by a collection of radially anchored
steel sections.

The outer sheath of the structure is in glass panels supported

by a grid of steel members with cross bracing. Besides glass,
there is a partial covering of corrugated metal sheets bolted in
place within a peripheral system of curved steel members
giving it its characteristic look.

PUNE RAILWAY STATION

The Pune Railway Station has a grand industrial entrance

constructed in steel space frames supported by column
anchored steel sections. The span of the structure (distance
between two column supports) is approximately 15m and
hence, classifies as a mid-span structure.

The height of the structure is approximately 10-12m. The

space frame is covered with flat metal sheets and not
supported by any cross bracing due to the expansive space
frame underneath for support.
