1) HOW WE SEE

- Light sources: Sun, light bulb, torch, screen

- How Does Light Help Us See? Rays of light travel from a light source and hit
objects around us. The rays of light reflect, or bounce, off an object, and then
travel into our eyes. This reflection of light allows us to see the object.

2) SHADOWS
Shadows are created when a source of light shines on an object but the light is
blocked and does not pass through it.

- Opaque: When light will not pass through an object.

- Translucent: When an object allows some light to pass through it.
- Transparent: When light passes through an object.
Which sort of objects make the darkest shadow? (opaque)
How can you change the size of a shadow? (Moving the object closer or far away
light sources)
3) REFLECTED LIGHT

Objects that reflect light well:

 have smooth, shiny surfaces and are usually pale colours;
 give clear images because they reflect light regularly;
 mirrors are excellent reflectors.
Objects that do not reflect light well:
 have rough, matt surfaces and are usually dark colours.
 give no or diffuse images because they reflect the light irregularly.

4) REFRACTED LIGHT
Light rays travel at a different speed when they go through other transparent materials,
such as water or glass. This causes the rays of light to change direction and bend. This
is known as refraction.
5) COLORS OF LIGHT

You can also use coloured filters to remove colours from light.
If a transparent piece of coloured glass or plastic is placed in front of a
white light, then only light of that colour will be transmitted (get
through). All the other colours will be absorbed.
