TREATY OF HUDAIBIYA

Write about the events related to the signing of the treaty of Hudaibiya and the main terms in it.

Allah permitted Hazrat Muhammed in his dream to go to Kaaba for Umrah. It has been 6 years the
Muslims had not visited Holy Kaaba and they were longing for it. He took 1400 Muslim in a state of
Ihram, 70 camels and moved for Umrah. At Hudaibiya, the camel of Hazrat Muhammad stopped, muslims
encamped there. The Quraish forbade the entrance of the delegation to Makkah. The delegation from both
the sides met but all dialogues failed then Hazrat Usman went for the permission to perform Umrah. They
allowed him to perform Umrah, but they did not allow Hazrat Muhammad "RasoolAllah Khatam-un-
Nabiyyin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam" and other Muslims to enter Makkah. It took some time for Uthman
(radiyallaho anho) to negotiate with them, rumour spread that Uthman (radiyallaho anho) had been
martyred. Hazrat Muhammad "Rasool Allah Khatam-un-Nabiyyin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam" assembled
his companions for a pledge to avenge the blood of Uthman (radiyallaho anho). In real Uthman
(radiyallaho anho) was not martyred.

Quraish sent Sohail bin Amr for the negotiations. The treaty was signed between Hazrat Muhammad
"Rasool Allah Khatam-un-Nabiyyin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam" and Sohail bin Amr while the writer was
Ali (radiyallaho anho). The treaty became quite controversial when it was referred to Hazrat Muhammad
"Rasool Allah Khatam-un-Nabiyyin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam" as the Messenger of Allah (azza wa jal).

Hazrat Muhammad "Rasool Allah Khatam-un-Nabiyyin Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam" compromised, and
told his cousin Ali (radiyallaho anho) to strike out the wording. On Ali’s refusal, Hazrat Muhammad
"Rasool Allah Khatam-un-Nabiyyn Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam" himself rubbed out the words. AI-Hadith
They agreed on the following terms:

 Muslims and Quraish would not fight for 10 years.

 This year Muslims will go back without the visit of Kaaba and would come next days for only
three days.
 None of the partners would break the treaty or would be dishonest.
 Arab tribes would be free to join any of the groups, none will interfere
 Anyone fleeing from Makkah to Madinah will be returned but anyone fleeing from Madinah to
Makkah will not be returned.

Once they completed the documents, the Prophet asked the Muslims to sacrifice their animals, shave their
head and returned home. Later on, this treaty proved very beneficial for the Muslims as Allah declared it
as a victory, He said,”Verily, we have granted you manifest victory.”

What in your opinion were the benefits, if any, to the Muslims of signing this treaty?

The Muslims wanted their entry in Makkah for preaching and the visit of Kabah. The battles were
forbidden for 10 years. This treaty paved the way to the Conquest of Makkah. The treaty bridged gulf in
between the Muslims and the Quraish which resulted in the drastic increase in the number of Muslims. It
allowed the companions to see the wisdom of the Prophet’s decisions.
