WEEK 8 & 9: CURRENT, VOLTAGE, RESISTANCE, AND OHM’S LAW

LABORATORY ACTIVITY
Name:De Los Santos Jessa I. Course/Yr/Section: Bsed 2B

I. Multiple Choice
Direction: Encircle the letter that corresponds to the correct answer.

1-2. Electrical resistance is measured in units called ______ with a unit abbreviation
____.
a. Ampere, Ω b. Volts, I c. Ohms, Ω d. Volts, Ω
3. The greater the voltage, the greater the _________.
a. current b. voltage c. resistance d. power
4. The greater the voltage, the greater the (answer in no. 3). But if the resistance of a
circuit is doubled, the current will be ______.
a. doubled b. half c. zero d. remain unchanged
5. Less _______ means more current.
a. current b. voltage c. resistance d. power

II. Fill in the blank.

In Ohm’s Law, three formulas for electrical quantities can be derived. Namely,
voltage, resistance & current.

I multiplied by R equals to V. This implies that voltage is directly proportional to

current flowing through it, given a constant resistance.
__

III. Problem Solving

Solve the following problems. Show the given, formula and solution in solving the
problems. Box or highlight your final answer. Don’t forget the units.

1. How much current is drawn by a lamp that has a resistance of 50 Ω when a

voltage of 11 V is impressed across it?
2. Find the current drawn by a 1300 Watts hair dryer connected to 120 V.
3. For the circuit shown below, find the Current and Power.

4. A Panasonic electric stove with a resistance of 58 ohms is labeled “1000 W”.

Was this electric stove designed for use in a 220-V circuit wiring or a 240-V
circuit wiring?
Answer
1. Formula used: Given: V= 11, R= 50 I=?
I= V/R
I=11/50
I= 0.22A So, the lamp draws a current of 0.22 amperes.

2. Formula used: Given: P= 1300, V= 120

I= P/V
I=1300/ 120
I= 10.83 amperes

3. To find current: To find power:

I= V/ R P= Vx1
I= 10/ 5 P=10Vx2
I= 2 amps P=20 watts

4. P= 1000 watts
V=?
R= 58 ohms
V= √Px R

= √1000x58
= √58000
= 240 V
