ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING SUPPLIES, VOCABULARY


1. Architect: An architect is a person who plans, designs and oversees the construction of buildings.
2. Drawing table: A drawing board (also drawing table, drawing table or architect's table) is, in its old form,
a kind of multipurpose desk that can be used for any type of drawing, writing or improvised sketch on a
large sheet of paper.
3. Slide rule: The slide rule is a mechanical analog compute, which is mainly used for multiplication and
division, and for functions such as exponents, roots, logarithms, and trigonometry.
4. T-square: a T-shaped plastic or metal instrument for drawing or measuring right angles (= 90°)
5. Transparent triangles: Triángulos transparentes, (escuadras).
6. Protractor: A protractor is a measuring instrument, typically made of transparent plastic or glass, for
measuring angles.
7. French curves: A French curve is a template usually made from metal, wood or plastic composed of
many different segments. It is used in manual drafting and in fashion design to draw smooth curves of
varying radii.
8. Rulers: A ruler, sometimes called a rule or line gauge, is a device used in geometry and technical
drawing, as well as the engineering and construction industries, to measure distances or draw straight
lines.
9. Scales: the ratio of the distance on a map to the corresponding actual distance Scale (measuring), an
instrument used to measure.
10. Compass set: Set Compass is a Maps tool for the plotting and recording of compass bearings, distances
and magnetic declination or variation for single or multiple Map routes.
11. Water colors: artists' paint made with a water-soluble binder such as gum arabic, and thinned with
water rather than oil, giving a transparent color.
12. Pencil sharpener: is a tool for sharpening a pencil's writing point by shaving away its worn surface.
Pencil sharpeners may be operated manually or by an electric motor
13. Sandpaper board: Sandpaper and glass paper are names used for a type of coated abrasive that consists
of sheets of paper or cloth with abrasive material glued to one face.
14. Pantograph: is a mechanical linkage connected in a manner based on parallelograms so that the
movement of one pen, in tracing an image, produces identical movements in a second pen.
15. Enlarging: to become bigger or to make something bigger.
