TUMBLER BOTTLE; ONE WAY TO REDUCE PLASTIC POLLUTION

 INTRODUCTION

Pollution becomes the current trend nowadays worldwide but still neglected, resulting in

the increasing amount of greenhouse gasses that cause global warming. Air, water and land

suffers different kinds of pollution that is yet to destroy the ozone layer that blocks the ultraviolet

from direct exposure to earth surface. A month ago, NASA had made an important call to help

save the earth from the possible effect of continues of global warming.

Among all the pollution that we have contributed to the world, Plastic pollution is one of

the common factors that have a great amount of contribution to continuous global warming. We,

as students, cannot do much about it. However, we believe that a simple and little action can

make a difference.

In the University of Southern Mindanao, the common plastic that is seen in every trash

can is a plastic bottle of mineral water. USM is one of the largest Universities in Mindanao with

thousands of students, particularly the USM main located in Kabacan, North Cotabato. That is

why it is undeniable to have many plastic bottles seen within the campus because it is

populated university.

The increasing number of plastic bottles inside the USM resulting in plastic pollution that

eventually contributes to global warming. We, as students, have planned to take an action in

order to lessen the number of plastic bottles from mineral water that a student of USM

consumes every day.

The solution is one tumbler bottle to each student of USM. If all students of USM use or

bring a tumbler bottle every day, there will be no more plastic bottles that can be seen inside the

university. In this way, we can lessen or even avoid plastic bottle in every trash can inside the

campus and eventually help the world to control global warming.

CONCEPT

The USM has hundreds or even thousands of students that enter the campus every day

and many of these students use to buy mineral water or water that is put into a plastic bottle to

satisfy their thirst after a long day of learning and doing school activities. As a result, the plastic

bottle found in every trash can inside the campus is increasing in number. Moreover, global

warming nowadays became a serious problem just when NASA announced a month ago that

Global warming is getting serious each day. We also know that global warming causes by the

large amount of pollution in air, water and land from human activities. Hence, we come up with

this single plan and action but timely and realistic to lessen the amount of plastic pollution that

we have contributed to our university. A one tumbler bottle per student of about thousand

students will be given is more than enough to help lessen the plastic pollution in our university

and throughout the world. With this, students no longer have to buy mineral water each day

which eventually contributes to plastic pollution.

The University of Southern Mindanao in partnership with the LGU, will give one tumbler

bottle to every student, so that the students will bring water from their home or boarding house

instead of buying mineral water in the store. With this, we can lessen the number of plastic

bottles we have in the university, so that we can also lessen or prevent plastic pollution in the

university.

The advantages of this are the following: Plastic pollution can be lessened as the plastic

bottle is lessened too, and students can save money. However, the disadvantage of this is that

it takes enough funds to provide one tumbler bottle per student.

This issue is not just realistic, but it is very timely as we are now experiencing global

warming and this very simple proposed action can make a great impact on the world. In

addition, to make it happen, only the USM in partnership with the LGU of Kabacan and others if

there is any, should initiate and take over this proposed plan.
