TD2 CONCEPT NOTE 1

Pattern development is important to many occupations and hobbies that require

folding or rolling of sheet materials. It plays an important part in the fabrication of
sheet metal ducts and pipes needed in the installation and heating of air
conditioning units. Stoves and refrigerators are fabricated from many sheet metal
parts.

BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Pattern is the development of an object that is rolled or folded. Surface
developments -- also known as stretch-outs. Stretch-out is a
flat pattern or development used in laying out, cutting and folding lines on flat
stock.

Objectives

 Provide opportunity for students to take key item measurements and

select a suitable pattern size(s).
 Interpret a selected pattern guide sheet to identify the correct pattern
pieces for a selected design.
 making basic adaptations to a pattern to accommodate the key
measurements
 draw the pattern of a triangular prism and assemble one

LEARNING CONTENT
Pattern making includes stills in pattern adaptation and pattern drafting.
Pattern drafting requires a pattern block or working drawing to be established by
using key measurements and using these to develop a pattern which interprets
an item design including its special features. Patterns are tested using toiles and
mock-ups to ensure that pattern pieces correctly interpret a design and its special
features (Pattern making, n.d.).
Initially, students learn how to select and adapt existing patterns to enable
a garment to correctly fit for the body or an item to meet desired size and fit
specifications. This should progress to students learning how to draft patterns
and test these using toiles and mock-ups to ensure the final pattern correctly
interprets a design and its special features. Students also learn how to develop a
pattern guide sheet that incorporates appropriate language, symbols and/or
diagrams to communicate pattern layout, and the step by step instructions
required to construct an item.
TRAINGULAR PRISM

(Triangular Prism Geometry, 2020) (Volume of Triangular Prism, 2020)

A triangular prism is a solid that has two triangular bases and three lateral
(rectangular) faces.

Both the triangles have three vertices each, which are not common. The
vertices of the rectangles are covered when we consider the vertices of the
triangles (How Many Faces are on a Triangular Prism?, 2020).

A triangular prism has 6 vertices. Each vertex of a triangle is joined to a

vertex of the other triangle by an edge. Each of the vertices of a particular
triangle are joined to its two other vertices by an edge each. These edges include
all the edges of the rectangles. It looks like a packaging of a famous chocolate
brand.
