I. Introduction
Overview about Meta
Meta (formerly known as Facebook) is a technology company that operates a range of digital

platforms and services, including the Facebook social networking site, Instagram, WhatsApp,

Messenger, and Oculus virtual reality. The company was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and a

group of college students.

Meta has a divisional design suggests a decentralized decision-making approach where each team has

some level of autonomy. However, the company may have centralized decision-making for overall

strategic direction (Indeed Editorial Team, 2023).

Meta has a relatively flat organizational structure. This means that there are fewer layers of

management between the CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and entry-level employees. The company's

management team is relatively small, and there is a focus on empowering employees to make

decisions and take ownership of their work.

Finally, Meta divisional design likely involves a combination of both. Each team is specialized in its

function or product area, but there are also geographic and corporate function-based teams. Therefore,

the company may use both job specialization and departmentalization.

II. Content
A. Working environment
1. Physical environment of Meta
1.1. Office Design
Meta prioritizes the design of its facilities to encourage collaboration and support changing business

needs. . Its facilities often feature open spaces (Cyber Tech, 2018) , such as open floor plans, shared

workstations, and collaborative meeting spaces, that encourage communication and collaboration

among employees. Additionally, Meta's facilities are designed to be flexible and adaptable to

changing business needs, with movable walls and furniture and spaces that can be reconfigured for

different purposes. The company also focuses on aesthetics, incorporating artwork, murals, and other

creative elements into its facilities to inspire employees and foster a sense of community. Overall,

these design features help to create a supportive and collaborative work environment that promotes

creativity and innovation among its employees (Spence, 2016).

3
1.2. Equipment and Supplies
Equipment
Meta relies on a range of computer hardware, software, and data center equipment to support its

operations. Its employees use desktops, laptops, servers, and other devices to develop, test, and

maintain the company's software products and services (Loop, no date). Meta also develops and uses

a range of software applications, such as collaboration tools, productivity software, and software

development tools, to support its operations. The company operates large data centers around the

world that include servers, storage systems, networking devices, backup, and disaster recovery

systems to support its online services. To ensure employee safety, Meta provides safety equipment,

such as personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, gloves, and other protective gear, to

protect its employees from workplace hazards.

Supplies
Meta also provides various amenities to support its employees “well-being and day-to-day"

operations. It provides food and beverages, such as snacks, coffee, and other drinks, to its employees,

promoting their well-being and productivity. Additionally, Meta uses a range of office supplies,

including paper, pens, and other office supplies, to support its employees' day-to-day operations. .

These supplies are essential in ensuring that employees can perform their work effectively and

efficiently. Overall, by providing these amenities, Meta aims to create a supportive and comfortable

work environment for its employees. (Shroff, 2022).

2. Company culture of Meta

2.1. Communication
The communicative company culture of Meta is one that values open communication, collaboration,

and a shared sense of purpose. It encourages employees to share their ideas, opinions, and experiences

in a respectful manner. This helps to create a culture of trust and understanding, one that allows for

innovation and creativity to thrive. At Meta, there is a focus on providing an open environment that

allows for constructive conversations and an atmosphere of mutual respect. Meta's communicative

culture also promotes an environment that encourages learning and development. Leaders are

expected to be open to feedback and constructive criticism from their employees. This allows

4
employees to feel heard and understood and gives them the opportunity to grow and develop

professionally.

All in all, Meta's communicative company culture is one that fosters collaboration, trust, and

understanding.

2.2. Teamwork
Teamwork is essential for success in any organization, and at Meta, it is encouraged and emphasized

by creating a culture of trust, communication, and mutual respect. ‘Findings indicate that in

organizations where teamwork conditions are provided, their employees have more commitment to

their organizations’ (Alf and Lizz, 2004, pp. 375-390). Collaboration is highly valued, and teams are

encouraged to work together to come up with innovative solutions. Teams are also encouraged to

have fun and enjoy the process and celebrate team achievements. This fosters an environment of

collaboration and respect and encourages team members to work towards a common goal.

2.3. Leadership
‘Leadership is as a process, the use of noncoercive influence to shape the group’s or organization’s

goals, motivate behavior toward the achievement of those goals, and help define group or

organizational culture; as a property, the set of characteristics attributed to individuals who are

perceived to be leader’ (Griffin, 2021, p. 303). Typically, Meta believes that the right type of

leadership and culture is essential for optimizing success. Their culture is centered around

collaboration, innovation, and customer service, and they strive to foster a culture of openness and

transparency. They recognize the importance of having a strong team and providing them with the

tools and resources they need to succeed. They are committed to delivering the highest quality of

work and creating a culture of innovation and collaboration.

3. Working Conditions of Meta

3.1. Salary
The general salary of a meta typically tends to be higher than the general labor market, which can

have a positive impact on employee morale. Employees who are paid higher salaries tend to be more

satisfied with their jobs and more motivated to perform their best. This can lead to increased

productivity and better results, which can be beneficial to the company. Additionally, higher salaries

can attract higher-quality talent to the company, allowing them to compete with other organizations

5
for the best employees. For example, according to the available data, the average salary at Meta,

formerly known as Facebook, is $155,739 per year or $74.87 per hour, which is significantly higher

than the average salaries in the general labor market. However, there is also a significant gap between

the lowest and highest-paid workers at Meta, with the lowest-paid workers earning less than $116,000

per year, while the highest-paid workers earning over $207,000 (Meta salary, 2022).

3.2. Benefits
Meta offers various benefits to its employees, such as reasonable accommodations for qualified

individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans during job application procedures. However, the

benefits of Meta can also refer to the potential advantages of the metaverse, a virtual world that the

company is developing.

According to available research, if the metaverse becomes a widespread reality, it could have virtually

countless benefits, providing people with new opportunities and capabilities they have never

experienced before. Three significant advantages stand out: affordability of experiences, accessibility

to diverse locations and communities, and safety and security of physical experiences (Zimet, 2021)

Moreover, attending virtual concerts is one potential experience that could be available in the

metaverse, as suggested by Meta's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg. Additionally, a late 2021 survey of global

internet users found that the biggest benefit of the metaverse was perceived to be overcoming

obstacles that prevented them from doing something in real life, followed by enhancing social

interactions and offering a new level of personalization. (Petrosyan, 2022).

Overall, the benefits of Meta refer to the advantages that employees can enjoy, such as reasonable

accommodations, as well as the potential advantages of the metaverse, which includes affordability,

accessibility, safety, security, and new experiences.

3.3. Workload
The workload of a meta, which involves managing and overseeing multiple projects or initiatives, can

be considered high due to the multifaceted nature of the role. While managing multiple projects can

provide employees with a sense of challenge and achievement, a high workload can also lead to

burnout, stress, and decreased job satisfaction, particularly if employees feel overwhelmed and unable

to manage their responsibilities effectively. This can have serious impacts on their sustainability in the

6
role, as well as negative physical and mental health effects. To address these deleterious effects,

employers should provide adequate resources, training, and support to help Meta manage their

workload more effectively. Additionally, employers should encourage Meta to prioritize self-care and

stress-management techniques, such as exercise, meditation, and time management strategies, in order

to ensure their long-term sustainability in the role. This would not only help Meta to remain motivated

and productive but could also reduce the risk of burnout and stress-related illnesses.

B. Evaluation of Meta’s Working Environment

Strengths
Meta is renowned for its open and collaborative workspace design, which is emphasized in its

headquarters in Menlo Park, California. This open-plan office space encourages teamwork and

communication between employees, creating a culture of collaboration and innovation where

employees can work together to solve problems and develop new ideas. Meta also places a strong

focus on employee well-being, providing a range of benefits such as on-site gyms, health clinics, and

counseling services, extended parental leave, and flexible work arrangements. This emphasis on

employee well-being is further complemented by Meta's culture of innovation, offering employees the

opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and create new products and services. Diversity and

inclusion: Meta values diversity and inclusion and has made efforts to create a more diverse and

inclusive workforce. The company has implemented policies and programs to support employees

from diverse backgrounds, including those from underrepresented groups.

The efforts of Meta to ensure employee satisfaction have been reflected in reviews on Glassdoor, with

employees citing the company's positive work culture, interesting projects, and opportunities for

growth and development as reasons for their satisfaction.

Weaknesses
The technology industry is known for its high stress and pressure, and Meta, a leading tech company,

is no exception. The demanding work culture often results in long work hours and tight deadlines,

leading to a stressful work environment and lack of work-life balance for employees. Moreover, Meta

has been involved in several controversial practices that have garnered public scrutiny. These include

the company's handling of user data, content moderation policies, and impact on society.

Consequently, employees may find it challenging to navigate a work environment where they feel

7
conflicted about their work or the company's values. Additionally, despite the company's efforts to

promote diversity and inclusion, Meta has faced criticism for a lack of diversity in its leadership

ranks. This lack of diversity can restrict perspectives and create a less inclusive working environment.

Furthermore, employees who handle sensitive information, such as user data, may experience a

heightened sense of responsibility and concern regarding privacy and security. In summary, working

for Meta can be demanding, stressful, and challenging, given the company's controversial practices,

lack of diversity in leadership, and privacy concerns.

C. Recommendations for Improving Meta’s Working Environment

Here are some recommendations that Meta can consider improving the weaknesses we have

mentioned:

Address work culture and employee well-being: Meta can prioritize employee well-being by

promoting work-life balance, providing resources for mental health support, and implementing

measures to prevent burnout. This can include offering flexible work schedules, encouraging breaks

during the workday, and providing wellness programs such as mindfulness training or fitness classes.

Address controversial practices: Meta can work towards greater transparency and accountability

around controversial practices such as content moderation and data privacy. This can involve

engaging with stakeholders, including employees, users, and regulators, to ensure that policies and

practices align with ethical and moral values.

Address diversity and inclusion: Meta can prioritize diversity and inclusion by implementing

measures to increase representation of underrepresented groups in its leadership and workforce. This

can include setting goals for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), implementing bias training

programs, and expanding recruitment efforts to reach a more diverse talent pool.

Foster a culture of open communication: Meta can encourage open communication between

employees and leadership to ensure that employee concerns and feedback are heard and addressed.

This can include implementing regular check-ins with employees, creating anonymous feedback

channels, and providing opportunities for employees to voice their opinions on company policies and

practices.

8
Invest in cybersecurity and data privacy: Given the sensitive nature of the information that Meta

handles, it is crucial for the company to invest in cybersecurity measures to ensure the protection of

user data. This can include implementing multi-factor authentication, conducting regular security

audits, and providing cybersecurity training to all employees.

III. Conclusion
A. Summary of Evaluation and Recommendations
Evaluation
The working environment at Meta offers several advantages that make it an attractive place to work

for many employees. The company's culture is known for being collaborative and innovative, with a

strong emphasis on teamwork and creativity. Employees at Meta also enjoy a competitive

compensation and benefits package, as well as opportunities for career growth and development.

Additionally, the company provides access to innovative technology and resources, which can be

beneficial for those looking to stay at the forefront of the industry. Finally, Meta has made a strong

commitment to diversity and inclusion, creating an environment that is welcoming and supportive for

employees from all backgrounds. While the working environment at Meta offers many advantages,

there are also several key disadvantages that employees should be aware of. The company's culture

can be high-pressure and demanding, which can lead to stress and burnout. The technology industry is

also rapidly changing, and employees and managers at Meta must stay up-to-date with the latest

trends and technologies in order to remain competitive. The culture at Meta can be highly

competitive, which may not be suitable for everyone. Finally, the company's business model relies on

the collection and use of user data, which can raise ethical concerns around privacy and user safety.

Overall, the working environment at Meta is dynamic and challenging, with many opportunities for

growth and development. However, it also requires a high level of dedication and commitment, and

may not be suitable for everyone.

Recommendations
Meta is known for its high-stress work culture, which can lead to a challenging work environment for

its employees. In addition, the company has faced criticism for its controversial practices, lack of

diversity in leadership, and privacy concerns. To address these weaknesses, Meta can prioritize

employee well-being, transparency, diversity and inclusion, open communication, and cybersecurity.

9
By implementing measures such as promoting work-life balance, addressing controversial practices,

increasing diversity and inclusion, and investing in cybersecurity, Meta can create a healthier and

more inclusive work environment, improve its public perception, and enhance the experience of its

employees.

B. Benefits of Improving Working Environment

Increased employee retention: Improving the working environment can help reduce employee

turnover by creating a more supportive and positive workplace culture. When employees feel valued

and supported, they are more likely to stay with the company for longer periods, reducing the need for

costly recruitment and training of new employees.

Higher employee productivity: A positive and healthy work environment can lead to increased

employee productivity and engagement. When employees feel supported, motivated, and energized,

they are more likely to be productive and creative in their work.

Enhanced reputation and brand image: A positive and healthy working environment can improve the

company's reputation and brand image, helping to attract and retain top talent. When the company is

known for valuing its employees and promoting a positive work culture, it can become a more

attractive employer in the competitive tech industry.
