In my opinion, the difference between a cover letter (surat lamaran kerja) and Curriculum Vitae (CV) can

be explained more specifically in the following points::

1. Definition:
 Cover Letter: A brief summary of an individual's life history. A cover letter typically contains
information regarding relevant work experience related to the applied position.
 Curriculum Vitae (CV): A more detailed document outlining work history, organizational
experience, education, skills, and references. The CV serves as a consideration for recruiters to
determine whether the qualifications align with the requirements of the open position.
2. Objectives:
 Cover Letter: Its main focus is to convey the motivation, interest, and suitability of the
applicant for the applied position. The goal is to capture the recruiter's attention and persuade
them to read the CV.
 Curriculum Vitae (CV): Focuses on providing structured and detailed information about the
applicant's education, work experience, skills, as well as academic or professional
achievements.
3. Content:
 Cover Letter: Contains a personal introduction, mentions the source of the job vacancy
information, and explains why the applicant is interested in the company or position. It also
presents key points that support the qualifications.
 Curriculum Vitae (CV): Presents details about formal education, work experience, skills,
certifications, and other achievements. It is usually structured chronologically or based on
relevance.
4. Format :
 Cover Letter: Usually, a Cover Letter letter follows a writing format such as:
a) The Destination Address
b) Opening Greeting
c) Cover Letter Content
d) Closing Paragraph
e) Closing Greeting
 Curriculum Vitae : CV contains more detailed information, including:
a) Brief Summary
b) Contact Information
c) Work Experience
d) Organizational Experience
e) Formal and Non-formal Education
f) Skills
g) References
h) Hobbies

5. Style and Language:

 Cover Letter: More narrative in nature and allows for personal expression. The language style is
formal, yet it can reflect the applicant's personality
 Curriculum Vitae: In a more formal and objective manner, typically using fact-based points and
measurable skills.
5. Appearance :
 Cover Letter: The layout for a resume will consist of text that provides information about the
brief history and the purpose of submitting the cover letter.
 Curriculum Vitae: "In the creation of a CV, there are two layouts/styles that can be used. You can
opt for a simple layout or a creative one. Make sure to choose a CV layout that suits your needs."
6. Panjang:
 Cover Letter: Typically shorter, often just one page. It is advisable not to make it too long to
avoid exhausting the reader.
 Curriculum Vitae: The length can vary depending on the applicant's experience and qualifications
but tends to be more detailed and may span several pages.
7. Waktu Pemakaian:
 Cover Letter: Used as a supplementary introduction to complement the CV when applying for a
job.
 Curriculum Vitae: It is a document more commonly included in job applications and is used to
provide a comprehensive overview of the applicant's career and qualifications.
