CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
In this chapter the researchers introduces the background or history of the
topic which is the influence of Korean pop music on the behavior of grade 12 TVL
students in Holy Rosary Academy school year 2021 - 2022. In addition, the significance
of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, scope and delimitation,
and the conceptual framework are included in this chapter.
Introduction
Music is now a part of many people’s lives and some even say that life is
meaningless without it. In our generation, many people are dependent to music. It is
evident that mood changes according on what genre of music they were listening to and
these genres include; pop, jazz, rock, slow rock, RNB, hip hop or rap and many more.
Nowadays, Filipino students are constantly using technology. They utilize social
media to communicate with others, and they may have seen advertisements, videos, or
images related to K-pop music or K-pop groups because some Filipinos do. You may
read their captions about what they discuss on the internet, such as being obsessed
with them, being a supportive fan, and influencing their friends. We can say that they
may have an impact on the other fans' attitudes. They communicate with people and

discuss what they enjoy about them. Being a shy or non-communicative person can
lead to a desire to chat a lot, and we can say that this is one approach to make friends
online or to transform one's attitude from shy and non-communicative to talkative and
comfortable with people.
The issue here is whether K-pop music actually changes people's attitudes. Is it
possible that a student's behavior is linked to their love of K-pop? Is there a link
between K-pop music and students? We cannot conclude that students' behavior has
changed significantly as a result of their K-pop fandom. We can only speculate that
being a K-pop fan is one of their motivations. Hip-hop, electronic dance, jazz, and rock
are all genres of K-pop music. We are talking about this because we are being swept up
by K-pop. We are aware of their foods and beverages, just as we are aware of their
style. We make use of Korean products. In addition, we attempt to learn their language
for some reason, since they want to comprehend their K-pop idols even if there are no
subtitles.
Objectives of the Study
General:
This study aims to determine if Korean pop music influence the behavior of
Senior High School students TVL in Holy Rosary Academy of Las Piñas City

Assumptions/Hypotheses
Listening to K-pop music can influence a student's behavior. In addition, students
can help them be more productive in their everyday routines just by listening to K-pop
music.

The figure 1 shows the independent variable of this study, which is the "K-pop
Music". In addition, the dependent variable or the one that is being influence by the
independent variable is "Behavior". Furthermore, the participants or the moderator of
this study is the grade 12 TVL students in Holy Rosary Academy S.Y 2021 – 2022.
Scope and Delimitation of the Study
This study aims to identify the Influence of Korean pop music on the Behavior of
Grade 12 TVL students studying at Holy Rosary Academy SY 2021-2022. The findings
of this study will be limited a particular in the TVL strands students that is currently
enrolled in the academic year of 2021-2022. The data gathering will be conducted
during the 1st semester, particularly during the 2nd quarter of this class semester.
The data gathering will be conducting a Survey with a particular questions
regarding to identifying the Influence of Korean Pop Music towards the Behavior of the
students, which is going to be the participants of this study.

Significance of the Study
To the Parents
They should always keep an eye on their children because they are constantly
present in their home. Certainly, they may state correctly if their children's behavior has
changed as a result of listening to K-pop music.
To the Students
Students become attach about K-pop because of their attractive visual, addictive
melodies, message of the lyrics, eye-catching music videos and choreographies,
personality. And help them through the difficult times.
To the Future Researchers
We can help them or to other people to be understandable and be open to all the
diversity in the whole world. So more people to be open to other cultures and diversity
without judging and being xenophobic. We can help them to be more open despite the
language barrier and the different diversity.

Definition of Terms
Behavior - Behavior is the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward
others. When people perceive themselves as similar to the model, they are more likely
to enact whatever behavior is modeled by that person. In the case of a celebrity,
identification may also determine behavioral compliance. The more a person identifies
with a celebrity, the more likely that person may be to engage in advocated behaviors.
We have our own behavior that should not be questioned by anyone. K-pop is already
accepted in our culture, it motivates some people and it gives us knowledge about the
culture of Korea that is what Kpoppening is.
Fandom - It is a subculture made up of fans who are characterized by a sense of
empathy and fellowship with others who share a mutual interest. Among students
idolizing those K-pop group.
K-pop - K-pop stands for Korean pop, pop being short for pop music. The name for the
genre is first recorded in English around 1990–95. Strongly influenced by Western
popular music, K-pop took off in 1992 with Seo Taiji and Boys, who incorporated rap,
rock, and dance elements into Korean popular music. K-pop or Korean popstar is the
one who gives comfort and fun to the students and is admired by many, because of

their talents in dancing, art and singing and also their beautiful looks that are so
fascinating that they are idolized by the majority.
K-pop Music - It is a genre originated from South Korea.

In this Chapter the researchers cited different articles and previous
research papers both from international and locale that are related to the research topic.
It also has the Synthesis for all the related articles and study.

The causes and effects of Korean Pop Culture on Vietnamese
The purpose of this study is to explain the impact of the Korean Wave on
Vietnamese consumer behavior. Because of K-dramas and music, Vietnamese are
becoming more attached to Korean style, such as cosmetics and language classes,
according to this survey. Vietnamese youth have been inspired by the Korean Wave
since they have accidentally listened to K-pop songs in coffee shops or clothing stores.
Vietnamese are prepared to do whatever to have a common point with their idols, such

as buying CDs to support their idols, dressing up like idols, using Korean things to have
a common point with their faraway love, and so on. Vietnamese became interested in
the Korean Wave as a result of the internet and social media sharing news or
Vietnamese seeing some international showbiz. Vietnamese people spend their time
watching dramas, doing make-up on a daily basis, and watching a TV show with
Vietnamese subtitles. Vietnamese enjoy K-drama due of the attractive actors/actresses,
excellent acting abilities, surprising plots, and sophisticated cinematography.
Vietnamese people enjoy K-pop music because of the attractive vocalists, engaging
dancing moves, catchy songs, and well-produced music videos. Vietnamese people
seek to study Korean in order to better understand their idols (Anh, 2016).
The Korean Diasporic Identity in the Context of K-pop Consumption: The Case of
Young Female Diaspora Members in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan youth has been widely influenced by the rising Korean wave as they
viewed this in more practical mindset. Reseacher believed that it is no longer a Korean
surge but instead a culture and environmental trend that had heavily influence youth in
Kazakhstan. This shows how younger people have been identity composed how they
viewed the rising fame of Korean culture. Kazakhstan's youth are increasingly being
influenced by the internet and social media (Koh & Baek, 2020).

Exploring characteristics of video consuming behavior in different social media
using K-pop videos
This article exhibit the differences have user shows the way they consume web
videos on social medias As the risen of k-pop industry, their music videos has been part
of their stepping stone to their success. Youtube and Twitter, for example, is the two
most influential tool as this is where they mostly connect with their Fans. This research
have prove how these two social media platform used. K-pop idols post their videos on
Youtube while they are more engaged in twitter as what the articles says. (Kim, Lee,
Han, & Song 2014)
Does virtual reality affect behavioral intention? Testing engagement processes in
a K-pop video on Youtube
Medias has a great influence most especially k-pop idols as they post their work
on Youtube. Researchers based it from the 3 factors to Virtual effects, fans and
nonfans. This point out the perks of the overall VR video performance of k-pop idols
especially BTS. How BTS Fans show different significant Factors interaction.
Parasocial, behavioral, intention and more. It maybe conducted among 142 participants
however the experiment has a great contribution to the research (Seok, Dove, Ebright,
Morales, & Kim 2021)

The Influence of K-pop Indonesia’s Students Behavior.
As k-pop industry rises and continuingly spreading although out the world,
Indonesia was also been greatly affect, from the people's appearance, How they
communicate and even the culture itself has been recreate in the different countries as
well as Indonesia. However as what in the article say that this might have good
influence but there are also some negative outcome from this Korean industry has
brought different affects to the Indonesians most importantly the k-pop and as the
number of mosaic Indonesia’s itself create the number of people will be also influenced
(Ramadhami & Linadi 2012)
The global influence of K-pop
This article shows the widely influence of Korean industry all over the world. Most
specially their Korean pop culture. Famous boy group and girl group such as Twice,
Blackpink and the biggest boy group BTS has been united in a different us wester
shows. K-pop are widely known for producing various music that makes everyone eager
to hear. A lot of k pop artist had also outreach high music personality however its still
not a bad thing as they also make it as a tool to reach a funds for awareness of youth
(Zhou, 2019)

Korean Wave and Potential Impacts on Indonesian Adolescents and Others
ASEAN Countries
In Southeast Asia, the Korean wave, also known as Hallyu, has taken hold.
Drama and music on television, DVD, magazine, newspaper, and the internet are all
part of the Korean Wave. Ramadhami and Linadi notice that they have the ability to
control their actions. The strength of drama and music may be realized by Indonesia
and Southeast Asian countries (Ramadhami & Linadi 2012)

It's truly amazing to have someone you are looking up to you are fond of.
However, it is much more meaningful if you do it wisely and Filipino army did so. As a
fan they don’t just want to be called as crazy fan but they think of creating a
organization called balyena.org which aims to adopt a humpback whales as they sum
on one of the music video that BTS released on 2015.This symbolized the connection of
BTS and its fans or so called Army (Paseo 2009).

Because K-pop singers are skilled at delivering lyrics in their music videos, even
if Filipinos don't understand the lyrics, Filipino fans can get a sense of the ambiance or
theme by simply watching the video. And, as Lee Jincheol put it, "K-dramas are formed
by average people's lives." And Lee said "(K-pop) songs reflect the agonies, the scar,
the concerns of other people," he pointed out. "(K-pop singers) need to be very brave to
describe these (factors) and put these in their songs." (Arayata, 2018)
Filipino attracted to Korean culture, K-pop, Koreanovelas

soju, and corporations like Samsung have made Koreans popular in this country.
Filipinos are becoming more conscious of Korean culture. According to a survey
conducted by Mye Min Lee, pop concerts, culinary festivals, and Korean novels are the
three things that Filipinos enjoy the most (Korean drama). And Korean Ambassador to
Manila Hye Min Lee said “This is a sign of the strong and growing people-to-people
relations between Korea and the Philippines which help promote mutual understanding
between us”. (Yap, 2011)

CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the researcher’s approach to conduct the study particularly
in the aspect of data collection and analysis. The researchers expound on the
processes through which they gathered, exhibited, and analyzed relevant information to

undertake the objectives of the research. A detailed description of the research design,
sample and sampling technique, research instruments, and data collection and analysis
procedures along with the rationalization for utilizing such methods are presented
below.
Research Design
The study employed Survey research design using survey among the selected
Grade 12 students of Holy Rosary Academy as participants. The researchers prepared
questions in line of the interview. The research methodologies employed is the
qualitative approach.
Sample and Sampling Technique Used
We will send a link to our survey to all TVL sections, and the first question will be,
do they listen to K-pop music? If they responded yes, the link will display on their
screen, and when they click it, they will be taken directly to our survey. And for those
that said no, we valued their response.
Research Instrument

The questionnaire we use is an open ended. Due to this circumstance, we
like to use letter to email. We offer our participants a list of questions that we
have written ahead of time. We decided to use the internet, due to Covid-19
pandemic. We will just give our survey in TVL strand, who are enrolled at Holy
Rosary Academy. And it was a survey-type.
Data Collection Procedure
First, we requested that the guidance counselor provide us with all sections of
the TVL strand, and then we requested that our class president and class
representatives forward our survey to their section so that they may respond to it. We
may collect data with the support of our class president and class representatives, and
we can direct TVL students one by one to complete our survey. Our survey is an open
form; we simply fill out the form and distribute it to TVL students.
Data Analysis Procedure
We divided into groups and then responded based on our goals. And we obtain
the code in each answer so that we can figure out what the topic is. We are not biased
since we want to see the true outcome of this study.

CHAPTER 4
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This part aim to know the influenced of K-pop music, and to know how they
influenced. This study shows the various reasons why students' behavior is influenced
by K-pop music. Shows how some students are influenced or not influenced by K-pop
music and indicates how the students were influenced by K-pop music. Including the
themes, sample statement and the discussion.

To summarize the respondents' responses to why K-pop is popular with them.
The italicized sentences below are some of the respondents' responses to K-pop music.
“The lyrics is very unique and meaningful to the other type of songs” “The meaning of
their music” And “Because every K-pop music have a meaningful lyrics”. Students are
attracted to K-pop music because the lyrics in their songs are meaningful. Because, as
we previously stated, people hear it on a social platform such as YouTube, which has
been translated into English so that everyone can understand the K-pop song.
And a student who catch their interest due to a K-pop group. “Because again of
the BTS” “All songs of bts” And “Because of BTS”. Students are drawn to K-pop music
because of the boy band BTS. BTS has 7 members who each have a unique
personality. BTS became well-known when they released the song DNA, and their fan
base is still growing. I believe they catch the students' curiosity since they can watch

BTS on social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram.
And when they perform on television.
A student who catch their attention due to the appearance of a K-pop Idol. “It's
because it involves catchy lyrics and beats and cute artists.” “Kasi maganda ang beat,at
ang gaganda at pogi rn ng korean pop idol (Because the beat is lovely and the K-pop
idols are lovely and attractive.)” And “Beautiful ladies with big tits?” Students are drawn
in because of their appearance; in their MVs, they can see all of the Idols' faces, and
this draws them in. And, once again, they all see the Idols' faces on social media, such
as pictures of them 'aegyo' (being cute) and concept photos (the look or theme the
group is going for at debut, in different comebacks, photoshoots, etc.) of them before
they release their MV.
A catchy tune that is relevant to our generation. “Because my taste in music is
pop so why I like kpop music is because of the melodies that are instantly stuck in my
head.” And “it's so much powerful rather than in a local music”. Because K-pop music
has an easy-to-remember beat or rhyme, students enjoy it because it is simple to
remember and can provide an energetic mood when listened to. And because some of
the lyrics have been romanized, students enjoy them because they can read them as if
they were Korean.
A student who has developed an interest as a result of watching/viewing videos.
“Because of the series and movie”. She/he is viewing TV shows and movies with OSTs
performed by K-pop artists. And as a result, she/he attracts attention since in series and
movies, the brief OST is played before and after the series or movie begins. And some

of the programs and movies are well-known among students, and some of them reveal
the identity of the musician who sings the OST.

This is their response to the question ‘What is the reason why you continue to listen to
their music?’
Because of their attractive appearance, students are influenced by their music.
“because i saw how passionate they are when it comes to making their fans happy
with their songs and dance” And “Nothing, i literally wanted to listen to it” Students
are drawn because they have seen how their idols make their fans happy with their
songs and dance. And students that are open to any type of music or genre. Students
are drawn to them because they can see how hard the idols work when creating their
MV. And the fans love them and have a strong emotional attachment to them.
A student who is interested in K-pop music because it has a catchy beat/song.
“Its a beautiful genre and a meaningful lyrics” “Kasi maganda ang beat (Because it
has a beautiful beat)” “It is very calm although i didn't understand much more about
their language but still i prefer to listen because the beat is very energetic and the
lyrics is meaningful” “I think na Love at first Listen ako HAHAHA. Love ko ang k-pop
music kasi hilig ko din sumayaw (I guess I fell in love on the first listen. I enjoy K-pop
music because I enjoy dancing)” And “co'z it's pretty good song's and good
meanings” Students prefer to listen to its because it has significant words and a
catchy beat that makes them feel peaceful or energetic, even if they don't understand

it. They claim this because any K-pop music uploaded to YouTube has an English
translation, which they use to understand what the MV is about.
Students are drawn to K-pop music because of its meaningful lyrics. “Because
of the BTS and sometimes I heard from the ost of kdrama also it's have a wonderful
message” And “The reason why I continue listening is their message in that songs.”
As I previously stated, some of their songs have been translated into English. And
because some of them are watching a K-drama/movie, they hear a K-pop artist's
OST. And we can claim that some K-pop songs demonstrate how valuable they are.
And, of course, the listener's heart will melt since, at the very least, those songs know
their worth.
And because students influenced other students to become K-pop fans, some
students became interested in a K-pop girl group Twice. “Well, Twice members are
super cute so…” And “Because of twice” Twice has 9 members, and because they
have their individual gorgeous faces, students are drawn to them. Twice being well-
known when the song 'TT' was released is like a sobbing emoji. The MV makes them
look sad. Students are more attached to them since they always communicate with
their fans, which melts their hearts.
A student who enjoys their native language “because of their language,even
idont understand”. Because of the way they communicate, I believe she/he enjoys
listening to it. Even if she/he doesn't understand it, she/he enjoys hearing it. I believe
it's because it's her/his first time hearing it and she/he can't get enough of it.

When a student listened to their music, they were filled with joy. “It gives me
joy” When they listen to K-pop music, they are filled with excitement. I believe they
experience a great deal of happiness when they listen to K-pop music, which always
brings her/him joy. And I felt at ease with it.
A student who is unable to live without K-pop music. “because I can't live
without that” I believe that when they first heard it, she/he concluded that she/he
couldn't live without listening to it. It's almost as if she/he is addicted to what she/he
does on a regular basis.
And when she/he hears K-pop music, she/he gains confidence. “it helps me to
overcome my fear when I dance in public or sing in the public, and their songs it hits
me a lot” It gives her/him confidence in public, allowing her/him to conquer their fear
of being in public. It became a safe haven for them, and they were fearless.

Figure 3 shows a thematic map of K-pop music that influenced students'
behavior. For a better understanding, italicized responses explain why and how K-pop
music influenced their behavior. This is their response to the question ‘In what way K-
pop music affect your behavior?’
Most of them are influenced by K-pop music as if they are addicted to it, and as a
result, they have gained confidence and ambition in their lives. “I become addicted
without realizing it” Maybe I become more confident about myself” And “k-pop music
pushed me to be more ambitious in life”. Since of this, they are addicted because
they want them on a daily basis, such as when they want to view or listen to their music
every day, to the point where they are obsessed with it. And K-pop music boosts their
confidence in doing what they want to do, such as dancing, singing, or showing who
they truly are. And because they appreciate K-pop music, it inspires students to want to
be like them, such as in a K-pop group or to be an Idol someday.
And students who just boost their mood on a daily basis. Their music has a
strong emotional attachment. “I feel inlove everytime I hear their song”. When a student

pop group BTS. We may say that BTS encourages their fans to be more themselves,

CHAPTER 5
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECCOMENDATIONS
Summary of Findings
The data also reveals that the k-pop music influence the students. Some of
students are obsessed with k pop music because of their beautiful voice and their
strong voice. And students who catch their interest due the k-pop group. Students
change their lifestyle after became fans of k pop and this is a natural thing that happens
as k-pop members are role models for many people, their music has a strong emotional
attachment so many students are obsessed with k pop music and because of social
media students were quickly given the opportunity to watch live on Youtube for their k
pop idols.
K-pop music pushed and inspired us to do such thesis. Fans are energetic and
happy when they saw their idols performing on stage or in MV's. K-pop music taught
fans to work hard and helps to reach their goals. In short, k-pop fan serve music as their
motivation in life.
Conclusion
Upon doing a survey, The following conclusion are proven.

1.) K-pop music has a big impact in youth nowadays, k-pop music is one of youth’s
mood setter to aim big and become their inspirations.
2.) K-pop music influences a lot of people in the world wide, lifestyle keeps on changing,
memorizing lyrics, Fashion become teens Passion.
3.) Korean has a lot to offer when it comes to music, television like Dramas/ Action/ Sci-
fi, Many of the students were engage into k-pop music and korean Dramas that some of
the students record themselves by watching or listening to k-pop that even sometime
purchase some stuff that korean actors or actresses endorse.
Recommendation
1. Our recommendations and conclusions about the influence of Korean pop
music on the behavior of grade 12 TVL students in Holy Rosary Academy S.Y
2021. According to our research, we will provide an insight and a solution. So
on and so far, many people's lives are now enriched by music, and some
even argue that life would be meaningless without it. Many people in our time
are reliant on music.

2. The approach we came up with, was since Filipino kids are always using
technology. They communicate with others through social media, and some
Filipinos may have seen advertising, videos, or photos related to K-pop music
or K-pop groups.
3. We can't say that K-pop fandom has had a substantial impact on children's
conduct. We can only assume that one of their objectives is to be a K-pop
enthusiast. We are not prejudiced or biased because we want to see the
actual results of this research. And we came up with a plan that can gathered
all the students' responses.
4. To see if K-pop music has an impact on pupils' conduct. K-pop music might
have an impact on a student's behavior. And simply listening to K-pop music
can help students be more productive in their daily lives.
5. We came up with an approach to explain how K-pop music (independent
variable) has become increasingly influential on the behavior of the student
(Dependent variable) processes using a conceptual framework.
6. The data will be gathered through a survey with specific questions aimed at
determining the impact of Korean pop music on the behavior of the students
who will be participating in this study.
