A Reflective report on unit two of skills Portfolio

UNIT TWO: ATTITUDE AND MOTIVATION

This is a very resourceful module because it entails powerful words that can guide students
through their academic journey as well as their personal lives. All the units are out of the hook
but unit 2 touched me the most. Attitude is the willingness to act in a certain way in reference to
a given situation. A lot has been learned, for instance, to succeed in Nursing you need to team up
with others, and in order to collaborate you need to maintain a positive attitude, thus attitude has
a direct impact on how you communicate and work with others. Furthermore, your attitude
determines how you contribute to your culture of work environment, how you perform your
daily tasks and responsibilities, and most importantly attitude shapes one’s success and
happiness.

In this unit, I realized that maintaining a positive attitude you to be curious this means that you
show interest and pay attention to objects. You need to be honest, meaning you are truthful and
observant. Someone with a good attitude is open-minded, which means they listen and respect
the opinions of others. In addition, you need to be creative, which means you come up with
simple solutions when faced with challenges.

Motivation is the desire to act in service of a goal. It said that motivation is the crucial element in
setting and attaining our objectives. It is one of the driving factors behind human behavior.
Motivation is categorized into two, extrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation is the
motivation to participate in an activity based on meeting an external goal, garnering praise and
approval, winning a competition, or receiving an award or payment, it is referred to as a type of
operant conditioning, which is a form of behavior modification that uses rewards or punishment
to increase or decrease the likelihood of specific behavior recurring. While intrinsic motivation is
the act of doing something without any obvious external rewards. It is done because it is
enjoyable and interesting, rather than because of an outside incentive or pressure to do it, such as
a reward or deadline. In general, motivation is very important because it helps break old habits
and to develop healthy ones.

2
I have learned that motivation is very important as a student because there are a lot of obstacles
to be encountered in the academic journey. To be self-motivated you need to choose your
attitude daily, use positive self-talk, think and plan out your next day before you go to bed and
stick to your plan when you wake up, set positive expectations and most importantly just do it to
mention a few as studied.

It also noted that procrastination is one of the factors that hinder academic success or lives
outside the academic area. In most cases, student procrastinates because of stress in their lives or
unfounded negative beliefs they have about themselves. Additionally, poor motivation is also a
contributing factor, because it may make one have little or no interest in completing a task
because you find the task boring or lacking in relevance. Sometimes one may lack confidence
and fear that one will be unable to accomplish a task successfully or may lack the skills and
abilities needed to accomplish a task.

I have learned that it is advisable that I avoid procrastination in order to succeed academically.
To do so there are certain things I need to put into consideration. For instance, I have to be
committed to whatever I do as long as it is environmentally, economically, and socially
acceptable. Additionally, it is very important to accept that nobody is perfect, so I have to seek
help from fellow students and lecturers when the task is complicated. Another point is that I
should organize my tasks as well as focus on my attention.

It is also learned that self-discipline improves academic performance, some studies show that
students who are disciplined tend to get better scores and perform excellently than their peers. To
be a successful student, you will need to be ready to pay a price, either by sacrificing your time,
energy, sleep, money, or even food, to attain that height. It is said that success never comes by
chance. It comes to those who deserve it. Healthy living is another point to be considered. A
student needs to get enough sleep at least 8 hours, this avoid students to doze in classes and
should go to the clinic as soon as possible, and inform the lecturer. Most importantly students
should avoid alcohol and drug abuse.

In summary, I have learned a lot in this module, I am very sure that things will go on my way the
main point is to avoid procrastination at all times and be committed to academic work until my
ambition is fulfilled. It was exciting to attend classes for this module because it is full of quality
information that a student needs to know in his/her academic journey.
