Cat Ring Dish


Project
Overview: Make the ring dish in spiral from the center outward. Make the cat ears and tail
separately and then stitch them to the dish.

Diameters ~ 4 x 4 x 1 in / 10 x 10 x 2.5 cm

Note: -Work the ring dish with 2 strands of yarn, and the ears and tail with single strand
of yarn.
- Do not sl st to join in each round throughout the project unless mentioned
otherwise.

TIP varieties, keeping in mind that this might change the size and texture of the end product.

Let’s Get Started!
R1: With double strands of yarn and a 4mm hook, make a magic ring, 6 sc into the ring, sl st to the
first ch to join (Picture 1, refer Appendix for detailed tutorial for magic ring). [ 6 sc ]
- You can either work with 2 balls of yarn, or combine the both ends of one yarn ball together –one
end from the center, one end from the outside of the yarn ball.

R2: (Always mark the first st with a st marker and move the marker to the next starting st) Ch 1, inc
in each sp around (Picture 2). No sl st joining unless mentioned otherwise. Work the next st in the
arrow sp of Picture 3 (i.e: the starting st). [ 12 sc ]

R3: *1 sc next sp, inc next sp* (Pcture 4), rep ** 5 more times. [ 18 sc ]

R4: *1 sc next sp, inc next sp, 1 sc next sp* (Picture 5), rep ** 5 more times. [ 24 sc ]

R5: *1 sc next 3 sp, inc next sp* (Picture 6), rep ** 5 more times. [ 30 sc ]

R7: *1 sc each next 5 sp, inc next sp*, rep ** 5 more times (Picture

R8-9: 1 sc each sp around, the project should start to curl in to


form a dish (Picture 9). Sl st next sp to end after R9 is completed,
snip and fasten off. [ 42 sc ]

- Turn the project inside out like the arrows shown in Picture
10, the back of the project should be contacting the surface when
the dish is in used (Picture 11).

A ‘Bendable’ Cat Tail
Step 1:
With single strand of yarn and 3.5mm hook, ch 4, 1 sc each sp
starting from the second ch from hook. *Ch 1 (doesn't count as 1
sc), turn (Picture 12), *1 sc each next 3 sp*. Rep from ** for 12
more rows. Snip and fasten off, leaving a long yarn tail for seaming
. [ 3sc x 14 row ]

Step 2:
Thread the yarn tail through the tapestry needle, fold the tail piece
in half, seam the edges together with the ladder st for a couple sts
(Picture 13 & 14).

Step 3:
Insert the metal wire or twist tie to the tail piece (Picture 15, circle)
and continue with the ladder st across, keep the yarn tail for
stiching (Picture 16).

Cat Ears (make 2)
R1: With single strand of yarn and a 3.5mm hook, make a magic ring, 6 sc into the ring, sl st to the
first st to join. [ 6 sc ]

R2: Ch 1, *1 sc next 2 sp, inc next sp*, rep ** 1 time. Push the magic ring upward to form a cup
(Picture 17). [ 8 sc ]

R3: *1 sc next 3 sp, inc next sp*, rep ** 1 time. [ 10 sc ]

R4: *1 sc next 4 sp, inc next sp*, rep ** 1 time. [ 12 sc ]

R5: *1 sc next 5 sp, inc next sp*, rep ** 1 time, sl st next sp to join, fasten off, leaving long yarn tail
for stitching. Flatten the cone shaped piece to a triangle ear. Rep all steps and make another
ear (Picture 18). [ 14 sc ]

It’s all coming together
Step 1: Thread the yarn tail of one ear through the tapestry needle (Picture 19), insert needle
through the last sl st sp of the ring dish (Picture 20, arrow), then through the base of the ear (Picture
21, arrow), rep the looping between the dish and the ear (i.e: whip st) until the piece are well attached,
weave in ends.

Step 2: Rep Step 1 to attach another ear. I placed my ears with 3 sp apart (Picture 22), feel free to
make your own adjustment and be creative with your kitty!

Step 3: Place the tail at the back of the dish, in between both ears (Picture 23), stitch it on with
whip st until well attached (Picture 24).

Ring Dish!
APPENDIX - Magic Ring
Step 1: With either single or double strand of yarn, wrap yarn into a ring (Picture 1), grip ring and
tail firmly between middle finger and thumb, insert hook through center of ring, yarn over
working yarn and draw up a loop (Picture 2), yarn over and pull through the loop to make
your first sc (Picture 3).

Step 2: Rep and make 5 more sc into the ring . Then close the ring by pulling the yarn tail (Picture
4), so all the sc are gather toward the center.

Step 3: Sl st to first sc to join (Picture 5), magic ring completed (Picture 6).
