Cultural Artifact Analysis


Objective: To help students understand the relationship between sociology and culture by
analyzing cultural artifacts.
Instruction:

 Choose one (1) artifact/material culture.


 Analyze how the chosen cultural artifact shape and are shaped by society through
answering the following questions.

Material Culture
Clothing: Traditional attire such as kimono
(Japan), saree (India), or kilt (Scotland).
Architecture: The Taj Mahal (India), the
Eiffel Tower (France), or traditional igloos
(Inuit cultures).
Tools: Stone axes, pottery, or weaving
looms.
Artifacts: Pottery shards, arrowheads, or
ancient coins.
