1. Describe the system of education under the Jesuit educational management.

The system of education under the supervision of Jesuit is an advance compared to the
other universities. The Jesuit educational system emphasizes physical culture, humanities, and
scientific studies. They are also strict in their training of students through strict discipline and
religious instruction. They also provide vocational training in agriculture, business, mechanics,
and surveying. They practiced praying before and after class at Ateneo, where they started the
class with a prayer and required students to attend mass. The students at the Ateneo were
divided into two groups: the Roman Empire, where the students live on campus, and second is
the Carthaginian Empire, which includes students who live outside of campus. The Jesuit
educational system encourages student competition by assigning a rank in class, with the highest
rank being "emperor," for which students competed by challenging one another. The second is
tribune, the third is Decurion, the fourth is Centurion, and the last is Bearer

2. .Make a comparative analysis of the academic climate between Ateneo de Manila and UST

Rizal chose to attend the Ateneo Municipal, which was run by Jesuits, while in the
University of Santo Tomas it was under the Dominicans. They practiced praying before and after
class at Ateneo, where they began the class with a prayer early in the morning and required the
students to attend mass because Ateneo trained the students through discipline and religious
instruction. Ateno was known for being more advanced than the other colleges at the time,
which Rizal liked because of their education system. They also encourage competition among
students by assigning a rank in class, with the highest rank being "emperor," for which students
competed by challenging one another.

While at UST, as I previously stated, it was under the Dominicans; unlike the Jesuits, who
have an advanced or liberal education system in which they are free to express themselves, the
education system at UST is more traditional. According to Rizal, UST gives them more freedom
by not requiring students to attend mass because they believe it will make them mature and
responsible. He also stated that he was unhappy and did not enjoy his time at UST because the
Dominicans were racist and discriminated against Filipino students, they have favoritism which
they use as their criteria for academic performance and he was not satisfied with their method of
teaching. He also experienced Spanish brutality. According to Rizal, studying at UST is not
effective in comparison to his previous experience at Ateneo. He found the atmosphere in UST to
be oppressive.

Rizal both experience discrimination while attending these schools, with Ateneo
discriminating him because he only knew a little Spanish. The Dominicans professor at UST was
racist, and they discriminated against Filipino students. His studies at different universities were
far apart, but he still managed to excel.
