I don’t know where to start describing
the process of creating this magazine.
Surely, it has not been easy, but it has
been an absolute blast. I love design-
ing; in some ways, I find it therapeutic
and always feel fulfilled after design-
ing for a while. This is the first official
work I am producing toward my passion
for graphic design. I tried to experiment
on each page to make them the most dif-
ferent and diverse from one another. I
did this in order for you, the viewer, to
feel content after reading so that you
never long for more after you flip to the
final page. This magazine is a self-re-
flection on the way aesthetics have
changed my life as well as those around
me.

A special experience I had while making this magazine was the intricate
conversations I had with my mother. My mother drilled into me on how much
aesthetics play a role in nature, how pleasing it is to see a flower in
bloom and the tail of a dog wagging. Beautiful things are all around us
meant for us to explore and appreciate.

Thank you to all those who aided in the process of the magazine. I would
specifically like to thank my personal project mentor who did not let me
get away with a lazy attitude and last-minute work even after I tried my
best running from her in the hallways. Additionally, I would also like to
thank my friend Saanvi who allowed me to use her wonderful art pieces on
the pages of this magazine; please go check her out on Instagram, her han-
dle: @artt.euporia. Lastly, I would like to thank my friends for providing
the primary research I needed for my project and for this magazine.

Aesthetic No.1

The indie aesthetic came from the idea of rejecting mainstream norms
and embracing non conformity. The term indie itself is derived from
the word independent. The whole aesthetic contains multiple different
styles and genres but anything created out of mainstream media and
what's considered "different" can come under the category of indie.
Though this definition has not exactly aged too well, since the entire
indie movement has become more commercial. The developed indie aes-

GothThe goth aesthetic emerged in the late 1970s and early
1980s within the goth music subculture, defined by its dark,
mysterious style extending to fashion, makeup, music, lit-
erature, art, and lifestyle choices. Characterized by black
clothing, leather, lace, and distinctive makeup, goth fashion
reflects a broader cultural movement.

Originating as a punk offshoot, goth diverged with a more

introspective and artistic approach. Coined by music jour-
nalist John Stickney, the term “goth” gained traction. The
Batcave club in London (1982) played a pivotal role, foster-
ing goth’s growth in music, fashion, and culture.

Today, goth is a global subculture with diverse expressions

in music, fashion, literature, art, and lifestyle. While main-
taining core elements, individual interpretations vary wide-
ly. The goth culture continues to thrive, with events, clubs,
and online communities providing platforms for expression
within the goth aesthetic.

alternative rock music scene in Seattle, is characte

an intentionally disheveled and casual appearance.
It rejects
conventional fashion norms, opting for elements like

Teenagers are at a point in life when they’re figuring out
who they are, and what they wear and how they look can be
a big part of that. We call this “aesthetics,” which means
trying to look nice and put together. This isn’t just about
clothes, it’s about how it makes them feel about themselves
and how it affects their daily choices.

Article By: For teenagers, what they wear can make them feel good and
more confident. Picking out clothes that show their style

Mahuaa Agarwal makes them feel in control and good about themselves. When
they look in the mirror and like what they see, it boosts
their self-esteem.

15y Aesthetics also help teenagers discover who they are. Try-
ing out different looks and styles helps them learn what
they like and don’t like. It’s like an adventure where they
get to explore whatmakes them unique.

And many teenagers use their style to show the world who
they are. They might choose clothes or a look that says,
“This is me, and I’m proud of it.” This can be a way to
stand out or fit in with a group that shares the same style.
It’s their way of saying, “This is what I believe in and
this is who I want to be.”

So, in a nutshell, how you dress and style yourself can

have a big impact on who you are and how you show that to
the world. It’s a way for teenagers to express themselves
and figure out their place in the world. And we’ve all been
there, making choices about our style that help us become
the person we want to be.

I, personally, used to be confused when it came to recognising myself or
having a strong identity. However, aesthetics played a huge role in that
as the particular beauty roles expressed in different ways allowed
me to recognise myself in them. I took some time to understand myself,
however, the self-discovery process that came with it allowed me to

This included the amplification of my comfort in my own culture, under-
