SANDINGAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SINULOG FESTIVAL 2023


Theme: “Santo Nino: Our Source of Peace in the Walk of Faith”

General Guidelines and Mechanics:


1. Contingents will parade in the designated parade route with their respective Festival Kings and Queens as lead
dancers. This is the mobile presentation of the competition (Assembly area: Calayugan Sur Basketball Court,
/Starting point: IN FRONT OF MA’AM AIDA’S PLACE). The Focal / Ritual presentations will be danced in SNHS
Covered court on January 31, 2023.
2. Judging will be done in two phases. The Mobile performance will comprise 30% of the total score while the final
Focal Performance will comprise the remaining 70%.
3. The competition is compulsory to all grade level. There must be One(1) entry per grade level.
4. The composition of the contingent shall be within the minimum of Seventy (70) and a maximum of Ninety (90)
dancers. The remaining non dancing students must serve as props men. Should there be less or more than the
required number of dancers during street dancing and actual focal presentation; THREE (3) points per dancer
shall be deducted from the total score against any contingent who violates this provision.
5. PARADE ROUTE dance steps should be progressive all throughout the whole parade route but could also use a
maximum of three by sixteen (3 x16) counts stationary steps. FIVE (5) points shall be deducted from the total
score of any contingent who does not follow this instruction.
6. Ritual/Focal presentation shall be limited to a minimum of Five (5) minutes and a maximum of Eight (8) minutes
only, including entrance and exit. Three (3) points for every exceeding minute shall be deducted from the total
score against any contingent who violates this provision. Every contingent will only be given a two (2) minutes
preparation time before their actual performance and one (1) minute clearing after each performance. Actual
Performance’s Timer starts immediately after the two minute preparation time, likewise the time stops as soon
as any member of the contingent move and step out in the exit area.
7. The choice of music is in the discretion of the competing contingent, may it be recorded, canned or live music as
long as it does not include malicious, vulgar, and indecent message. (each contingent can bring along with them
Portable speakers during the mobile presentation).
8. To develop the artistry and skills of our advisers, teachers and students, hiring of choreographers, and trainers
is strictly prohibited. Therefore, the advisers, teachers and/or selected students from the competing
contingent must be on-hand in training, and practicing their group. The contingent who violates this provision
will automatically be disqualified from the competition if proven.
9. All costumes and props must be made by the students, teachers and/or advisers to develop creativity, artistry
and craftsmanship including the costume of the Festival King and Queen. Materials can either be indigenous
or recycled. Paint, Inner suits/garments like tights, leotards, etc. are allowed.
10. Every contingent must deliver their story line as a start of their final/focal presentation. The dance entry must
depict the Loonanon’s culture and tradition in accordance with Sinulog.
11. Concept of the theme for costume and performance are left t the discretion of the participants based on their
own interpretation of what is relevant to Sinulog. Emphasis must be given to the concept of prayer in dance.
12. Dance steps, music, costume, props, and accessories of the dance should be in the context of the Sinulog. All
hand props shall be carried by the dancers throughout the parade route during the mobile presentations. Use of
backdrop, heavy and extra-large props are allowed only on the focal presentations.
13. The use of children ten (10) years below and live animal sacrifices are strictly prohibited. A three (3) points
deduction from the total score shall be imposed.
14. The use of fire and other flammable materials such as fireworks, pyrotechnics, candles, coal and incense as part
of the ritual are strictly prohibited. A three (3) points deduction from the total score must be imposed to the
violating contingent.
15. Each contingent must have a Festival King and Queen entry. The contingent’s festival king and queen must
prominently dance with their contingent bearing the image of Sr. Sto. Nino.
16. The festival King and Queen must prepare and deliver a minimum of one (1) minute and a maximum of three (3)
minutes advocacy speech.
17. There should be a dance derby of all the Festival Kings and Queens right after the delivery of their advocacy
speeches.
18. Critiquing and Final Blocking/Rehearsal will be done on January 27, 2023. Sequence and time schedules will be
posted prior to the said date.

19. The decision of the Judges in all categories is final and unappealable. Questions or Clarifications will not be
entertained after the announcing of winners.

Street-Dancing Parade (Mobile Presentation):

CHOREOGRAPHY – Difficulty and Artistry of Steps, Formation 12%

DISCIPLINE - Alignment, Balance, Focus, Rhythmic and Spatial Interest 10%

ENERGY LEVEL -Fluency, Endurance, Projection 8%

SUB-TOTAL 30%

Focal /Ritual Presentation:

OVER-ALL PERFORMANCE and CHOREOGRAPHY 30%


(Precision and coordination, fluency, alignment, balance, focus,
Projection, rhythmic and spatial interest)
(Creativity and artistry of steps and formation, style and expression)

THEME and STORYLINE 20%


(Relevance to the Loonanon’s Culture and Tradition in accordance
to the Sinulog as interpreted in story telling, music, dance movement
and artistic expression)

(Artistic choice of color and style, effective use of props relevant to the
Interpretation of theme.)
