Enhancing Student Performance in English through Facilitator-Aided

Modular Distance Learning

Rationale

Learning has been an inevitable aspect of one’s life, especially to students.

Education plays a vital role in providing children with systematic knowledge and skills

that will equip them as they progress in life from one stage to another. Customarily,

teaching and learning occurs in school, particularly within the four walls of the

classroom. However, with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional way of

conducting classes are put to a challenging situation. With face-to-face classes still not

allowed by the Department of Education, distance learning comes in.

Sandingan National High School, one of the public high schools in the Division of

Bohol, chooses to use printed modules as distance learning delivery modality. These

modules contain the necessary competencies which the students are expected to learn

while staying at home. Parents and guardians, then, are encouraged to serve as

learning facilitators to their children as they engage themselves in modular distance

learning. However, some students are deprived of this kind of beneficial assistance due

to the unavailability of a learning facilitator at home.
