CHAPTER 9. MONEY
VOCABULLARIES:
$ : DOLLAR
¢ : CENT
$1 = 100¢
Money : uang
Bought : membeli
Spend : membelanjakan/menghabiskan
Cost : biaya
Add/Addition : penjumlahan
Subtraction : pengurangan
Left : sisa
How much : berapa banyak
Whole numbers : bilangan bulat
Had/have/has : mempunyai

 Addition of Money
Example:
Mary bought a tin of sardines for $3.20 and a box of sweets for $1.55
How much did Sule spend altogether?
A tin of sardines: a box of sweets:

$3.20 $1.55

$3 20¢ $1 55¢

Step 1 add the dollars Step 2 add the cents Step 3 add the dollars and
$3 + $1 = $4 20¢ + 55¢ = 75¢ cents : $4 + 75¢ = $4.75

Mary spent $4.75 altogether

Adding dollars and cents is like adding whole numbers:

$ 3.20
$ 1.55
_______+
$ 4.75
Mary spent $4.75 altogether
 Substraction of Money
Example:
Troy had $42.75.
He bought a pair of shoes for $20.30.
How much money did Troy have left?

$42.75 - $20.30 = ?

$42 75¢ $20 30¢

Step 1 add the dollars Step 2 add the cents Step 3 add the dollars and
$42 - $20 = $22 75¢ - 30¢ = 45¢ cents : $22 + 45¢ = $22.45

Troy had $22.45 left

Subtracting dollars and cents is like subtracting whole numbers:

$ 42.75
$ 20.30
_______-
$ 22.45
Troy had $22.45 left

 word problems
Example:
Peter has $28.95
Sue has $5.50
How much more money does Peter have than Sue?
$28.95
Peter
$5.50
Sue
?

$ 28.95 - $ 5.50 =$ 23.45

Peter has $ 23.45 more than Sue

CHAPTER 10. LENGTH, MASS AND VOLUME
VOCABULLARIES:
Length : panjang
Mass : berat
Volume : volume
Distance : jarak
Between : antara

 Length
Metres and Centimetres
1 metres (m) = 100 centimetres (cm) (dikalikan 100)
4 metres (m) = 400 centimetres (cm) (dikalikan 100)
30 metres (m) = 3000 centimetres (cm) (dikalikan 100)

4 m 56 cm = 400 cm + 56 cm
= 456 cm

751 cm = 7 m 51 cm (700 cm sama dengan 7 m)

Kilometres and metres

1 kilometres (km) = 1000 metres (m) (dikalikan 1000)
4 kilometres (km) = 4000 metres (m) ( dikalikan 1000)
20 kilometres (km) = 20000 metres (m) (dikalikan 1000)

4 km 50 m = 4050 m (4 km = 4000 m + 50 m = 4050 m)

5247 m = 5 km 247 m

Example:
The distance between Lakeside MRT station and Chinese Garden is about 1 km 400 m.
Find the distance in metres.

1 km = 1000
1 km 400 m
m
400 m
1 km 400 m = 1000 m + 400 m
= 1400 m
The distance is about 1400 m.
 Mass
Kilograms and grams
1 kilograms (kg) = 1000 grams (g)

3450 g = 3 kg 450 g (penjelasan : 3450 g = 3000 g (3 kg) + 450 g)

1 kg 400 g = 1400 g ( penjelasan : 1 kg = 1000 g + 400 g = 1400 g)

 Volume
Litres and Mililitres
1 litres (ℓ) = 1000 mililitres (ml)

8 litres (ℓ) = 8000 mililitres (ml) (dikalikan 1000)

8725 ml = 8 ℓ 725 ml (8725 ml = 8000 ml (8 ℓ) + 725 ml)

 Word problems
Sonia walked 650 m from her school to the shopping mall. On her way back to school,
she walked 350 m to the LRT station to meet her friend. She walked 500 m from the
LRT station back to school. What was the total distance she walked? Give your answer in
kilometres and metres.

Answer:
On her way back to school (perjalanan kembali ke sekolah):
Shopping mall to the LRT = 350 m
350 m + 500 m = 850 m
From LRT station and back to school = 500 m
The distance from the shopping mall to the LRT station and back to school was 850 m
School to shopping mall was 650 m

The total distance Sonia walked was 850 m + 650 m = 1500 m

= 1 km 500 m
CHAPTER 11. BAR GRAPHS

There were 50 tickets sold on Monday

There were 45 tickets sold on Tuesday
There were 20 tickets sold on Wednesday
There were 55 tickets sold on Thursday
There were 40 tickets sold on Friday
There were 5 fewer tickets sold on Monday than on Thrusday
(Monday : 50, Thursday : 55. Jadi, pada hari senin tiket terjual 5 tiket lebih sedikit
daripada hari kamis, 55-50 = 5)
The least number of ticket sold was on Wednesday
(penjualan tiket paling sedikit adalah hari rabu)
The most number of ticket sold was on Thursday
(penjualan tiket paling banyak adalah hari kamis)
CHAPTER 12 . FRACTIONS (PECAHAN)

We can multiply (mengalikan) the numerator and the denominator by the same number
to find an equivalent fraction

2 4 (dikalikan 2, 2 x 2 = 4) 2 6 (dikalikan 3, 2 x 3 = 6)
= =
3 6 3 9
(dikalikan 2, 3 x 2 = 6) (dikalikan 3, 3 x 3 = 9)
We can also find equivalent fractions by simplifying fractions.
4 2 (dibagi 2, 4 : 2 = 2) 6 2 (dbagi 3,, 6 : 3 = 2)
= =
6 3 (dibagi 2, 6 : 2 = 3) 9 3 (dibagi 3, 9 : 3 = 3)
