Research Area: Environmental Noise Modeling

Title of Research: Survey of the Exterior Noise Of Some Passenger Cars

Author/s: E.J. RAa'H, F. CASULA, and H. HARTWIG

DOI URL: https://doi.org/10.1016/S0022-460X(73)80064-1

Research Objective/s: Noise Reduction
Key Finding/s:

1. A comparison of measured and calculated maximum sound levels for the ISO acceleration
tests. Using microphone position.

2. Using Different Measuring condition such as: (Rolling Noise, Stationary Measurements,
Constant Speed Test, Acceleration Test. (Dry Smooth asphalt is used).

Recommendations:
1. Used another type of vehicles or such as (tricycle, motorcycle, PUJ)
2. Test in different ways, Cities or in a concrete road
3. Add another type of measurement for measuring the noise level exterior and interior

Research Area: Water Quality Modeling

Title of Research: Natural Hazard Modeling and Uncertainty Analysis
Author/s: Matthew Thompson1 and Jord J. Warmink2
DOI URL: https://doi.org/10.1002/9781119028116.ch2
Research Objective/s: Structured Decision Process to Risk Modeling Process (Cycle)
Key Finding/s:
*Techniques and other approaches to evaluate the uncertainty
*The three tools: the uncertainty typology (the three dimensions of uncertainty), the uncertainty
matrix (a graphical overview of the essential features of uncertainty), and decision trees
(guidance for populating the typology and matrix) and described their relation to identification,
classification, and evaluation of uncertainties.
Recommendations:
*Identifying and classifying uncertainties facilitates communication between stakeholders,
scientists/analysts, and decision makers, and helps prioritize effective ways of managing
uncertainties [Gabbert et al., 2010].
*Clear communication can become even more important when modeling efforts are
interdisciplinary [Rauser and Geppert,

DOI URL: https://doi.org/10.1029/2020WR027721
Research Objective/s:
*Potential improvement in the representation of freshwater systems pertaining to water quality,
including representation of environmental interfaces, in-stream water quality and process
interactions, soil health and land management, and ( peri-) urban areas.
Key Finding/s:
*We assess four potential improvements in water quality modeling: environmental interfaces, in-
stream processes, soil and urban areas.
*Challenges include data quality control, model calibration, uncertainty management, scale
mismatches and model tool provision.
*Modelers need to strengthen connections with experimentalists and stakeholders, and cultivate
procedural knowledge for modeling processes.
Recommendations:
Three recommendations to provide a path forward improving watershed water quality modeling
science, infrastructure and practices:
*These include building stronger collaborations between experimentalists and modelers
*Bridging gaps between modelers and stakeholders
*And cultivating and applying procedural knowledge to better govern and support water quality
modeling processes within organizations
